Hiya guys,
I'm new to the forums, but I've been reading them throughly before purchasing an HP dv5000t notebook. Anyways, I've been reading all these issues people have with drivers and I was wondering why doesn't anyone just use driver backup software. Tools like DriverGuide ToolKit and Driver Magician will scan and export all the drivers on a default installation of Windows, like, let's say ...... an HP factory install and put them all in a nice folder for you which can either Slipstream into a Windows CD or install after the reformat. It just seemed so silly people were shuffling through tons of drivers in C:\SwSetup when they could do it so much more efficently.
Secondly, and this is actually a question. If I do a reformat without touching the QuickPlay partition will it continue to run flawlessly/factory settings. Meaning touching a QP button boots into QP instantly ect. or does a reformat mess up the buttons?

Hi anthony5000t,
About the Quickplay thing. Quickplay is a linux program that runs from that 204 meg partition on your HD. If you reformat and leave that partition unscathed you "should be ok. The Quickplay buttons on the laptop will act as multimedia buttons under windows but when the computer is off and you push one then that Quickplay function is initiated.
The whole concept behind Quickplay is to be able to play music or dvd from the off state of the laptop without having to load Windows. Hence it is a Linux program and lives in it's own little paetition on the HD. If you reformat and don't reassign that 204 meg partition to Windows you should "theoretically" be ok. I haven't tried this so I am speaking from a point of speculation. -

Quickplay 2.0 and above are embedded into Windows(requiring a 1GB partition instead of the older 200MB) and are not based off of Linux. So, depending on the version of Quickplay anthony has, the reinstallation will be either difficult or hard. -
I have been trying to use an OEM disk to get a clean install of xp but I have had ENDLESS trouble with HP's piece of junk driver support page. Thank You for the tip this will save me loads of time and endless frustration.

Quiclplay direct is not that hard to install. You need to do proper preparation before you start. Use MDesinger and Superman23 guide along with the highlight guide I made to make the installation of a clean xp and qucikplay direct to work great.
Any questions please contact me.
