Ok, so on Friday I got my 2nd dv2000t replacement. The first 2 had horrible screens. The one I got on Friday finally had a great screen. Now I've been using it all weekend up to this point with the AC power adapter plugged in and haven't noticed any problems. However, this morning I used the new laptop powered on battery for the first time and I noticed this INCREDIBLY annoying whine/beep/buzz noise. Whenever I plug the AC adapter in, it goes away. The noise is coming from the hard drive/keyboard area, so I figured it might be the hard drive. So, I swapped hard drives with the old laptop and the new replacement. The old laptop had a Fujitsu and this new one has a Seagate. I booted up with the swapped hard drive and the noise was still there, so that takes the hard drive out of the equation. I tried all different brightness levels on the screen and that didn't change anything. I then thought maybe it's from the battery, so I swapped batteries, and the noise was still there. The noise is definitely coming from inside the computer in the keyboard/speaker area.....it's not coming from the screen.

Is it so **** hard to get a normal functioning ****ing laptop??!! I just wanted a freakin laptop to use in class and all I've had is nothing but problems! I really don't want to send this in for repair or get a THIRD replacement.

    This is really ridiculous.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Hmm... sorry to hear of your bad luck. I recall someone else recently reporting a similar problem in this forum.

Great, now I've run into another problem. Now when I pick up the laptop I can hear something jiggling around inside the laptop.....the sound a loose screw or something like that would make. I'm just gonna get another replacement and sell this piece of garbage on Ebay.

The issue has something to do with Intel's speed step technology for Dual Core 2 Duo. People run some minor program in the background so the chip never idles and goes into speed step mode, eliminating the noise. You can use RightMark CPU clock and check " Run HLT command when OS is idle" option.

However, this solution will supposedly consume more power so it isnt that fantastic of fix.

I'm not even using a Core 2 Duo. My notebook has a Core Duo T2050.

EDIT: I downloaded that program and clicked that option. It reduces the noise somewhat, but it is still noticeable to the point where it aggrivates me.
