I have the DV5t five days, and I really like the way it looks, and I want to love it. But it seems to be a little buggy to me. Among other things, IE often hangs on me. Now I do have dialup at home and maybe it is a connection issue, or a vista thing, but I never had that issue with my desktop. Many times I get the "program is not responding" and I have to close and restart IE
Also, I got the TV tuner option to use the laptop as a television sometimes. I have a room with an active directv satellite box but no television. I have tried to follow instructions and get it up and running, but to no avail. In windows media center, I did the wizard, and I can see video on channel 3 (the directv flashing logo) but at a certain point it asked for an IR cable so I can control the settop box, I'm not sure what that means. In quick play it goes through the scanning wizard, and then nothing. It must be getting the signal as it indicates somthing is working in Media Center. Now today the program will not even open when I choose the television button. It freezes and once would not even shut down at all.
Other little buggy things too, and I want to love it, and it some ways I do. It does not seem to be as quick and I thought it should be, and I don't want to keep it if I shouldn't. Just looking for your opinion it they are kinks or an indication of trouble in the future. Once things have been opened, and even some programs installed, can this be returned? How does this process work, or should I try to get support for the quick play and tuner isse first and then decide?

have you updated all the drivers for you laptop? put you laptop model number in here to check:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=2093&lang=en
windows updates should also be applied if they havnt already been.
as for returning it, it depends how long you have had the laptop and where you bought it. there should be something on your reciept or invoice about returns. or you could ring them and ask. it also depends what country your in.
just out of curiosity, what are the specs of the laptop? -
Yes, I do get internet explorer hangs. I think that's a vista, IE7, & firewall interaction issue (IE hangs when I'm trying to open a new window that's got a lot of scripts). I see more of that on the machines we have at home running vista (unfortunately, all of them now...).
You do need to download all the MS updates (and maybe also the HP updates). On dialup, that'll hang up your phone for quite a while... Any chance of your going into some place that has free wi-fi, to load up all your updates? (In our city, the airport, convention center, & public libraries have free wi-fi; many restaurants too).
I don't have a TV tuner, so I'm not sure I can help, but I think they mean something that you plug into your TV or cable or satellite box, not your PC. The quick start poster didn't show you how to make all the connections with the TV tuner? I would suggest attempting to resolve that with customer support.
You have 21 days from when you received the unit to return for a refund if that's your choice. -
Do you have Flash 10? IE7 started to hang on my system after I installed Flash 10. There's a lot of discussion about it in the Adobe flash support forum at adobe.com.

Roosta,
Thanks for the link. Are all those drivers updates? I don't know how to tell what drivers I already have.
My specs are: Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7350 (2.0GHz)
- 15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
- 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive - Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
- Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
- LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
- HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
- 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
HDT,
Your are right about the updates and dialup! I did go to my library and download the MS updates, but I don't know if the HP drivers they have listed are what I have or new, is that a stupid question? How can you tell?
seasalt29,
How can I tell what version of Flash I have?
Thanks for everyone for your advice. Does anyone have the hybrid TV tuner installed? -
Well I answered my own questions about the flash player (version 9 or so adobe says) and the drivers. Is it always best to upgrade HP drivers in your opinion, or is it if its not broke kind of thing.
l'm still looking for opinions and help with the hybrid tv tuner.
How do you like your dv5t?
Having some issues with my new DV5t
