8510W, dual boot XP/V64, all was working.
Then the vista boot loader got corrupted. Fixed it, but it knocked both OSs off the domain. Had to demote, delete computer accounts and rejoin.
Now the fingerprint reader app won't allow login at all under XP and I have to give the three fingers of death to get to it under Vista.
Is this application flakey? or is this a result of whatever corrupted it? Is there a better (read: more robust) bootloader than Vista's?

I'm having the same issue with the finger print reader on 8510W Vista 32 only though. I think it has nothing to do with the boot loader corruption. I have uninstall and reinstall the HP tools about 8 times, after a fresh reinstall of the finger print reader problem it works for a little bit but, it always dies again. I have called HP but they only suggest the to reset the machine to factory default, sooo they're pretty much clueless about how to fix it.

I went with install config #3 (changed the dual boot design and the methods of installing programs and partition layout.)
Not having the problem now.
I have no idea what caused it originally.
Having trouble with the fingerprint reader application
