I don't know if my model is too old for you guys to help, but I have a 3 year-old pavilion ze5200 which for the past 2 years has been getting really really hot(and it's always been loud). I'm worried it may give out due to the excessive heat, is there anything I can do and how bad is this for the laptop?

    Thanks

What are the specs of your laptop? My guess is that it is a Pentium 4 which do run very hot. Has this laptop always been hot or just recently? Also, here is a very useful guide to cooling off your laptop:

    Good luck and happy computing!

I would get a laptop cooler. They really help a lot.

Get the service manual from hp.com and figure out how to clean the CPU heatsink fins. They're probably thoroughly clogged with dust by now. Don't forget to remove the battery before cracking open the notebook.

I agree with Brian. Most probably your laptops fans feel hot, don't they? This will happen when the heat fins get stucked with dust (personal experience :)). You'll be surprized how dense dust can be when you open up your laptop

    Here's the manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00246219.pdf
