    hi all

my newly purchased-vista based 6000t gets usually hot, and it is annoying typing while part of your hand is resting on the hot surface, i was thinking of returning the laptop because of that problem, but everything else in the laptop is perfect but this one issue

anybody knows of any solution? like something in the market to put on the surface for example just to shield my hand from the warm surface?

    thnx in advance

Maybe a mousepad or something trimmed as insulation. I'm guessing that your hard disk is heating up and causing discomfort. Sadly there is not too much you can do about the heat issue. You might want to look into a temperature monitoring software program to keep an eye on the disk. The only thing to prevent the heat is to minimize access to the drive. A laptop cooler may help. (See the cooling guide for a little more information)

I dont know what bios your machine is running, but i can say without a doubt that going from my stock F12, to F13, to F15, and now the current F16. F16 keeps my notebook nice and cool. especially the hard drive.

The fans come on more frequently, but its not like they're roaring. i really like the F16 bios.

    my laptop is HP DV6000T - Intel T5600 - nVidia GO 7400 - 2 GB

i do not care much about heating up on the bottom, my only problem is the warmth where my hands rest

coolers will not help me, i want something to cool the top of the laptop not the bottom so i can type comfortably

it is interesting that when u think u have found the best laptop for you, later u discover something really annoying

i might consider returning it after all

what a pitty ! a wonderful fast machine with a heat problem

Aim a small desk fan at it.

I would upgrade the BIOS if there are reports of it helping to cool the laptop...fans running are always a good thing and will cool the system down overall. Hopefully, that will help the palm rest area as well. Otherwise, a cooling pad would work wonders.

    Hello

I have a new DV 6000t laptop with intel core duo T2350 processor. I am feeling the heating issue as well on the left pad where we place hands for typing. I downloaded one software to measure the hdd and cpu temp and it seems to be weird... i tried with the NHC software and it shows CPU as 51C and HDD temp as 49C(120F).

anybody knows the normal operating temp for HDD and CPU?

Could some one suggest if there is any solution for this or its better to return this and get a new one.

Geesh! Your post was responded to with a bios info. Will you please tell us what you bios version is? If earlier or later than F16, roll it to F.16.
If you ask but do not listen we cannot help you. Hence the smart a** replies you have received.

The left palm rest gets warm but not too bad.

Most probably you are running the new (F26) BIOS which increases the temperature range in which the fan operates and thus your fan doesn't run sufficiently enough to cool all your components down to normal temperature.
I would suggest downgrading to F16 version of the BIOS which you can find HERE .

    Hope this will help. :)

Any CPU temperature under 60C is normal.

HDD temperatures at 49C aren't uncommon either but you have to bare in mind that the hard drive will be pretty warm if it's doing a lot of working like searching for files or downloading content, defraging or ripping music.
A good way to decrease HDD activity is to increase your RAM.

My hard drive area stays as cool as a cucumber. My core temps range from
29C to 35C, browsing the web for example.

I tend to think it's cause I have the 12 cell battery and my machine gets better ventilation.

Unfortunately i too have this problem with my new dv6000t laptop. The last one didn't have heat problem. Here is the response from HP support team on the heat issue

XXXX Step 1:=== Reset BIOS ===
    1. Restart the notebook.
    2. Tap the F2/F10 key as soon as the HP logo appears.
    3. Using the arrow keys, navigate to Exit menu and select Get defaults values.
    4. Navigate to Exit menu and select Save Changes and Exit.
    XXXXX: Step 2:

To reinstall Power Management, follow these steps:

    1. Click on Start
    2. Type Device Manager in the Start Search box
    3. Click on Device Manager
    4. Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
    5. Right-click the ACPI Fixed Features button and select Uninstall. In the "Confirm Device Uninstall" dialog box, click OK.
    6. Restart the system.

On restarting the system, Windows will automatically detect and install Power Management on the computer.

    xxxxx: Step 3:

As the notebook also becomes hot because of low System resources, Here is the web link to increase the system resources which in turn will improve the system performance.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00034290

NOTE :please copy the entire URL and paste it in a new window of Internet Explorer. Then open the link from there.

    xxxxx: And finally Update BIOS.
    xxxxx:
    =================================================

IMPORTANT: This is specific to your notebook model and processor. Get the right one

This is for Intel Core2Duo 7200 processor and my dv6000t model.

The support guy asked me the serial number and part number before giving me the below link.

    ==================================================

Here is the web link for the BIOS Update.
    xxxxxx: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35953.exe
xxxxxx: Just copy and paste the entire link onto the address bar of your browser and press ENTER.

PS: I'm yet to try these steps. Will update tomorrow with results :)
