I received a dv9500t a few weeks ago and it has been working great. For starters, I was watching a show online last night and 40 minutes in - the video started stuttering a little bit and it seemed like the picture of the tv show wasn't as crisp as it was before. I could just have made up the 'not as crisp' thing in my head after the stuttering thinking my video card was failing....but anyways...... I decided I should try to update all of my drivers today including the graphix card driver. I thought that all my drivers would be up to date since I just got this thing....but after looking at the date of my graphics card... I noticed that the one listed on the HP site had a later date and a higher version number at the end (ie, __.___.___.### - the ### was higher.) (Sidenote: I used HPs auto detect thingy to detect drivers and such - and I'm not sure if they list alllllll the drivers or ones I need cause they list like 30 for my 3 week old machine.) ...So I clicked on the install button and it starts installing...says it needs to uninstall previous driver and does...then restarts...then it asks me for the location of the driver.....I clicked something like 'find it automatically' or something along those lines........then it needs another restart.......then when it comes back on the screen goes black for 5 min....then the same question pops up and I click the same thing....then it restarts and does the saaaame thing......but this time it says there are two instances of the nvidia update running and said I couldn't shut down cause it was running and stuff.......so I made it close the updater and then the system....soooooooooo after a 3rd restart...it finally opened up such that my desktop comes up.....but it still says "found new hardware - need to install driver." I was scared that I'd have to redo my system using those dang discs I created.......and I'm still scared cause it still asks for the driver - I actualy downloaded the file vs. clicking 'install' on HPs site so I'm going to run that and see what happens.

And a straightforward question - does actually list all drivers that have come out for your laptop over the years or just the ones you need?

You can roll back the drivers on the device manager. But if it was me.. id do a clean install and not install any drivers from the hp website unless it was really necessary

Download your display drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com . You might have to try different versions as some might or might not work with your card

hmph....Well, after dl'ing the driver and running that.... had the same problem but on one of the runs it did something slightly different after one of the restarts and actually said it installed the driver......but yeah......after that - I'm definitely doing a clean install.

Do you still have the SWSetup folder in your C:. Looks like Windows is finding the drivers in that folder and automatically installing them when you reboot and clashing with the nvidia installer. try moving the SWSetup folder temporarily to an external harddrive/CD or DVD, diconnect the external HD or remove the CD/DVD from the tray and then uninstall the old driver, next reboot and then start the nvidia driver installation.

I do have that folder still - and that's where HPs driver downloads were automatically being saved to... what is it for?

It just contains the installation files for what ever software which came with the system including the drivers. It is used by the 'HP Application and driver recovery' utility to reinstall the drivers/software. Its not totally necessary but comes in handy when you need to install any HP software which is not available online(like Quickplay, Roxio DVD/CD burner etc.)

Soooo this laptopvideo2go site lists a bunch of files for each operating system but it doesn't say which card they are meant for.....

Click on the driver version number and it will take you to the page which lists the models it originally supports. However you might have to download and use the modded inf to install the driver on your system. The instructions on how to install these are located in the laptopvideo2go forums as well as the gaming/graphics section in notebookreview...

As an update after trying to install new 'chipset' and graphics drivers for my dv9500t.......my machine now takes twice as long to startup and get to the desktop.

I tried to restore my system to the day before I started 'updating' all these drivers but it didn't change the new startup time at all.

...I now definitely plan on trying the clean install....but not until Tgiving week when I'll have the time.

And also, it seems like my fan runs like crazy now...... First two weeks, the fans rarely came on.....I heard them come on like a few times a day.. and now it's practically every few minutes.
