I have an HP dv9317ca, for some reason when i booted it up i got the blue screen of death!! the computer is 5 days old. every time i use the power button it just freezes on a black screen. so i turn it off and press the 'quickplay' button which asks me if i want to do the HP System Check, wich comes back as "unknown problem", or if i want to start windows normally, which works.
all it says is that the problem could be caused by recently installed programs or updates...but I havn't installed anything recently and it was working just fine a day ago. this is bizarre :(  any ideas??

Try using the restore disks. If that doesn't help... to be honest, if I were you, I'd take it back to the store if I could and get something else!

My g/f had an issue with her Compaq laptop (hardware related). Sent it to customer service. Came back with deep cut scratches on the back of the monitor. It's been over a month and the issues has yet to be resolved!

Get something else... Gateway, Toshiba, Dell, etc.

    Good Luck!

What error message does the BSOD give you? Sometimes searching for the error code will provide hints.

Try booting in safe mode. Hit F8 right before the Windows logo comes up. If safe mode works then you have a software problem... somewhere. Could be the usual malware fouling things up.
