Ok...
I tripped over the notebooks power cable and my laptop went flying and smacked straight onto solid oak floor, the cd drive front had come off which ive managed to click back into place, theres a gouge in the screen and a scuff mark on the upper plastic, the pins inside the charger port on the laptop unit have bent and a peice of plastic holding them into place has fallen out, i have managed to plug the charger back in carefully. there is also a minor crack arround the port and the plastic surrounding the hole looks bent.
Is there any way i could get a replacement unit or am i going to have to make do? i do not have any insurance on it just the 12 months guarrenty that came with it...
And i can not afford a new laptop with me been 15 years old, ive lost my job, and this notebook was $800+ _JUST_ under a year ago.
what should i do?
=[

Nothing to be done about it. The basic warranty does not cover accidental damage like this.
-
As Bender might say...
"You're boned."
Warranty won't cover it, screen sounds trashed, power jack sounds trashed, who knows what else. Probably messed up your hard drive to some extent. Does the screen even work at this point? How does the system function? -
You could try contacting HP and see if they will give you a replacement, but you would have to be honest with them about what happened. However, they are under no obligation to give you a replacement. That really sucks. Good luck with your situation.

the system seems to be functioning fine and the HP 3D drive guard the logs state that the hdd was braced from impact and no damage was occurred i am using the laptop at the moment so screen and charger port are funtioning ok but they seem extremely damaged looking and some of the pins are loose and hanging out, ill post pictures in a minute

Yeah post pictures so we can give you a better damage assessment.

My biggest concern would be the power jack. The other things don't look too serious, though be careful with the crack on the side near the PJ. Might want to re-inforce it with a bit of epoxy if you can't afford to replace the bezel. If you know how to solder, I would suggest replacing the power jack. If you can't, you might want to consider taking it to a repair shop where they can do such a thing for you. You could also always just ride it out until it stops working, then get it fixed.
-
I think i might have to do that =[ i nearly cried when i saw how much damage there was =[
I'll have to try and get a new job somewhere and save for a new laptop.
Sucks =[ -
You can try buying the accidental damage insurance and after a month you can call them to get it replace. But you can't tell HP about what happened since they will have it on file if you try buying the accidental damage and get the laptop replaced.
-
f15hp has a good suggestion, however, for this very reason almost every company I know of will only extend accidental care (or whatever warranty you currently have) and will not upgrade warranties.
-
Just call up and order an ADP warranty. Then call into the support center and explain the issue.
-
Would that still work though, because surely they would find it suspicious after just a couple of months to be claiming? and how much would this cost? as i have about £10 to my name at the moment (just spent it all on a new N95 8GB) U.U
-
Well... You're in a tough position.
It would be about 60 quid. -
Charging ports are an item that commonly gets broken. You can order replacements off of eBay if you are handy enough to replace it yourself. If not, you will just have to go to a repair shop and let them sell you one that they will install for you (don't take one in from ebay for them to install).
-
There are more problems than just the charging port.
-
Duh. But that was the main one that was worth the investment to repair, so that is why I addressed it.
-
I Woulden't know how to remove the casing on my laptop e.t.c :/ i guess ill just have to be super carefull untill i can afford new laptop.

Hey, I even said it was a good idea, and I've done similar things myself [WOO, STICK IT TO THE MAN!]. But I'm not going to get involved in someone else's mess man.
