Hi guys, I'm pretty aggravated and disappointed over this but I wanted a Windows 7 Dv6 laptop and had no choice but to go through ebay to find a mint condition unit (i5,backlit keyboard, etc) since there have been none for sale here, craigslist, etc.
I just got it less than an hour ago and was sickened to find the laptop damaged/bent at the bottom of the key/trackpad rendering the left button stuck and useless.
The seller and I both have 100% feedback and he did insure the laptop but how hard and expensive would it be to repair this. I really don't feel like tearing it down but thought I'd check just in case it's cheaper and easier than anticipated. Pics:

I've never bought a used computer off ebay so I'm not sure how to proceed but since it appears to be shipping damaged, I guess the seller will have to see about the insurance coverage. I told him to pack it well but it had a single layer of bubble wrap!!
Thanks!
Jeremy

You'll need to replace the palmrest assembly, possibly also the base if the damage is from underneath!

Ok thanks simon. Is there a recommended site or vendor for buying the correct pieces? I've actually been using an HP zv6130us single core 2.5ghz Athlon cpu since around 2005 lol (use a custom desktop or my Android phone for other stuff) so I'm not familiar with where to go for the right laptop replacement parts.
Thank you! -
I have to mention that I just noticed that the screen casing is also bent noticeably and the outer skin and screen/bezel is busted open at the seam.
Laptopking prices the palmrest with trackpad (no cable) at $130 alone and no doubt the screen skin will be equally expensive to replace.
I believe this once mint laptop is nearly unrepairable due to the expense and I could slap the handlers that did this to the unit. -
Professionally, just have it done under insurance.
Now,
The tinker in me, and the self repairer, take the laptop apart. (It really looks repairable, I am assuming that once taken apart and set straight it will be just about as good as new. The track pad does not look damaged, and the physical buttons look straight as well, so the assumption is the underlying support it jacked up. Simple fix. Pretty much the functionality of the trackpad/buttons are still good.
I've repaired my m6-1035dx and done some mods to it. And its really not hard. The palm assembly is part of the upper case that comes off on one piece, from that point, you'll be able to see whats bent. I would apply slight pressure to unbend the assembly until its straight as possible.
There may be pieces that broke where it screws in, and I just take a screwdriver and get it hot with a lighter and with the piece in place, go around the edges until it holds. Then I find some spare plastic (under the cd/dvd slot are some "vent" like sections that is great for this) and I melt it into the broken edges as well.
If, you'd like to skype me with the laptop, lighter and a screw driver ready, I'll guide you through the dis-assembly and "repair" look for "saschaelble" on skype.
