As I got more into detail with the laptop I am looking at
    ( http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodd...354&PCName=laptop_under_799&logon=&langid=EN# )

I came across two things that are bugging me.
There is no Wireless Internet on this laptop
    And no Speakers.

The no speakers, if fine as it does cover me with earbuds, and I almost always have earbuds in anyway. No problem.

But after going through the whole list, it lists no Wi-Fi. If it doesnt have Wireless, I will just be going back to looking at Acer.

    • Wireless connectivity: Integrated 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN
    • Audio: Altec Lansing
You should have speakers. If you do not, then something is wrong with the computer. Right Click on My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager. Does anything show up with a yellow exclamation mark or other mark that doesn't look like all the other items? It might be a software issue (and the Device Manager might point that out). It could be a hardware issue, which bytes if it is.

Also, HP specs state you have an 802.11bg WiFi card.

Double check though: Start->Control Panel->Network Connections.
You should see a Local Area Connection (Ethernet), Wireless Network Connection (Your WiFi card), and 1394 Connection (Firewire...didn't know this could network).

I didnt get it yet, I was just looking at the one from bestbuy. It listed no speakers, and no wi-fi.

Edit: The one at bestbuy is on sale, and thats the only way I could get that one. This one is to much and I can't get it.

    Two things:
1: You can go to www.hp.com and type in the model number to get specs.
2: You should read thru thread thread on issues that you should consider before from buying from xyz vendor.

PS: The info applies to other brands as well..

Thank you gridtalker. I do try to point people in the right direction and sometimes purposely do not "give" someone the answer to a question, but instead point them to info so they can fiqure it out themselves...

"Feed a man a fish and he eats for a day, Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime."

While the thread title deals with the issues to consider when purchasing a PC, there is other info in there.

What I've been trying to do is post info to questions that come up all the time, (pre-purchase )and/or post info to those questions that only come up after you've purchased something and you may be within the return period.

Know it's long, but alot of info there...

All notebooks have speakers built in.

HP has been using Altec Lansing for the past few years, so that's what would be on that model.

And all HP notebooks have some form of wireless. Either Intel or Broadcom.
