So I went to turn on my notebook this morning and......... nothing. Shut it down like normal the night before. When the adapter is plugged in the light where it connects is on, but no LED on the front of the book turns on. The fans wont go either, I've tried it without the battery as well. I don't have a lot of experience with notebooks. Does anybody know what this could be?

dv2000?.. that's a pretty "ancient" line, IMO. Four or five years at least.
You would want to eliminate all possbilities. I would first attempt using a different adapter. But the hard reality is that it's probably about THAT time, I'm afraid. And there is no cheap and easy fix. Unless you know a tech, who is a buddy, you are most likely better off shopping for a new notebook. -
It seems possible, but there is no mention of not being able to power up at all. That's what my problem seems to be. I would plug in the adapter, and it will light there, but there is no effort to power on at all. Yeah, you're right. It is about 4yrs old. I'd like to get a new one but no moneys for it now. Is it even worth getting fixed?

The main board is probably shot. If you've got spare laptop RAM lying around, you could try swapping that in and see if it works, but it's probably dead.

I am not sure how the adapters four and five years ago work, but I am thinking (and I could very well be mistaken) that there is a safety chip of some sort that controls whether or not to charge the battery. I mean, that the laptop could "see" the adapter, yet the adapter itself is just not giving it any juice. And I am guessing that the notebook being that old, might have a battery that is not taking the charge very well anyway. And that is me being "optimistic", about what you are describing.
Truth is, I agree with hockeymass in that your board is fried. It's pretty common for that model to have the boards start to show symptoms at that point in their lifespans. I have an old AMD/nForce-based dv6000 starting to do the same. Sometimes, I can get bios to post on the first try, others it just starts and restarts for up to an hour before a successful post. I traced my issue back to a faulty nVidia GPU. Being that it is integrated, a used/refurbished board on eBay would set me back $120.00USD. That cost is just me installing it myself. I can only imagine what something from an "official" HP source would run. I have to believe that a board for your model would be a simliar estimate. I know most repair techs prefer to use their own suppliers. Perhaps you could find one where you could supply the parts yourself. Still, even that being said, it would surprise me if you could walk away with a repair for less than $250-$300USD.
Even at Walmart, IMO, you could find something decent and new for around $500. -
Thank you for your replies. I may know someone through a friend that can take a look for me. I will update for curiosity sake. I may just be buying a new laptop anyways. You guys have been very helpful in telling me what you think.
