    Hey guys,

I have had my dv4121 for 3 months and when i returned from my winter vacation, after the long flight, the thing wouldn't boot. I didnt drop it, I had some weird thought the scanners at the airport stuffed it up. It said there was no ide device detected. I chatted to one of the hp staff who guided me through several attempts at fixing the problem (I am hopeless with technology) and it seemed to go away. Although the person I talked to was friendly and helpful, i wasn't given a real solution, not that I even understand what an ide device is, but anyway... So now, over a month later the problem appears again.

Anyone else experience something similar? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Try booting from the CD which came with the laptop and try to restore the laptop to its factory default.
Do you have any recollection what the tech guy told you?

I haven't tried booting from the cd, but the tech person told me to press f10, go into bios and perform a hard drive test, something like that. the test just said that no ide device was detected. after playing around in bios and performing the test, restarting the laptop a couple of times, the problem seemed to have disappeared. I was just happy it finally worked and gave no furhter thought to what had happened.
