Hi All,
I need your suggestions for my problem.![]()
A month ago, i had to replaced the LCD screen with a new one(not HP's) after checking with the local computer service center.
Since yesterday, when i power on my laptop, the lcd screen is totally black however i could hear Hard Disk activity. Secondary display also works and i can login to windows 7 / ubuntu.
Please let me know if its the issue with the Nvida card 8400 M GS? or the LCD monitor again?
PS. THis is my bro's laptop.
Thanks,
Jithin

If the secondary display option works/connects, then it is not the graphics module.
I did one of these before on a dv6809wm myself (which is in the 6700 series). Did you replace the LCD invertor board or use the old one? Check your connections again as well as they are extremely fragile. -
I checked this with the repair guy and he said its some problem with the nvidia chipset.
He removed the LCD penel from my laptop and then connected it with another laptop unit and the screen worked without any issue.
He also said eventually the secondary display will also stop working after sometime. Right now i have brought my PC back home.

The connection may have just become loose, or your connection on the chipset is faulty. Try reconnecting it to the motherboard again and see if that fixes it.

The same chipset controls both display options. It can't work for one and not the other unless there is a faulty connection, which is likely the case (bad or corroded solder point/loose or short in harness).
Where was the LCD screen attached to the second PC at? Did he attach it from the plug that goes to the mainboard or the one that goes to the invertor?
If by some chance, that there is an issue with the graphics module, then your only solution is to replace the mainboard. Which having a tech do so could run you around $300.00USD (and that is just my low-balling a guess) - what this model is basically worth depending on how you have it configured.
