My laptop is HP zvPavilion 5330us, the cd/dvd rom is disappeared from "My Computer". In Device Manager it said "Windows cannot load the device for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.(code 39)"
I tried removed the cd/dvd rom from the device manager and ran the check new harware. It detected the drive but same result.
The drive secription is HL -DT -ST DVD-RW GWA -4080N
Since I don't know who made the dvd rom and I can't find the driver from HP support site. Will someone let me know where I can download the driver.
Many Thanks!

Check your configuration on your invoice, it should state which optical drive that you have. When I received my HP, I had a driver disk, where is yours?

Windows comes with the drivers necessary to read the optical drive... so something must be interfering with that. Have you installed any new DVD-related software lately? DVD burning software, decryptors, etc? It wouldn't hurt to do the usual virus/worm/spyware sweep too.

Hi, I had the exact same problem with my ze5385us. After 1 1/2 years, the cd/dvd rom combo disapeared. After thinking the worst, reinstalling the drivers, and contemplating removing the drive to see if there was a loose cable I decided to contact HP. I used the free email tech support. They quickly sent me link to download a patch. This fixed the problem instantly.
Good Luck. -
Many Thanks, I will do that.
