Purchased this notebook in 2003. Just recently while booting the screen appears grey while the disk is reading. Connected it to another monitor and seemed to get the startup.

Is there a way to find out if the screen is bad or the LED light has to be replaced. Since this is the only laptop i have for home work i need some help.

    Thank YOu

Since you connected to an external monitor and it still didn't work, I think it is unlikely to be the LCD. Perhaps the LCD connecter is loose, otherwise it is likely the GPU/Mobo. Might want to try to re-seat the hard drive and/or memory, but the chances on those are small.
