A family member gave me an old F572US (she uses her tablet now).

The machine was running Vista ... 2GB of RAM.

I had an SSD and thought would pop it in and load Windows 7.

Will this laptop even benefit from the SSD. I don't see anything in the BIOS (version F19 I think) about AHCI?

Can I upgrade past 2GB of RAM?

Or, is this machine best served with the 2GB of RAM, original 80GB drive, and playing with Linux or something?

    Thanks,

    Chad

Yes, you can upgrade the RAM to 4GB. If you have the 32bit(x86) version of Win 7, then only a little over 3GB will be available for use. Otherwise, if 64 bit (x64) version of Win 7, then all 4GB will be available for use.

You can also upgrade to a SSD. It will increase boot times and add to overall "snapiness" of the system. You needn't worry about AHCI settings as the driver IDE ATA driver will take care of that.
