Hi. I'm about to make a purchase for the 15'' HP dv6tqe but I have a few questions about the machine and customizations. I'm primarily using it for college but I also like to play games on it as well.
1. Is it worth paying the extra $75 to get a 2GB 6770M instead of the 1GB? Would it dramatically improve performance on recent games?
2. Do most games run on OpenGL? (I heard there was an issue about the video card not working with OpenGl apps/games and that might be the deciding factor)
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

2 The only popular game that runs openGL is minecraft. Just about every other game out runs on DX which works fine on the dv series. -
-
2 GB RAM - NO
1080p Screen - YES -
The Bios fix is now available to enable manual switching instead of dynamic switching: HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) HP Pavilion dv6t-6100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
And as the others have said, no, the extra 1 gig of ram will be completely useless for such a card. You'll want at least a 580 or 6800/6900 series card that can actually run games at settings/resolutions that will require that much more ram. -
Thanks for the help.
Also, is there a site with good HP online coupons? I'm about to make the purchase and i just want to find the best deals. -
Make sure you get the 1920x1080 display. It's a waste not to get the screen upgrade, because it makes a world of difference, and more difference than anything else.
The 1366x768 display is bad quality compared to the 1920x1080 display, and the resolution is so low that barely any windows fit onscreen. -
Googling "HP coupons" gets you plenty of stuff.
But for the lazy - HP® Coupon Code, HP® Coupons, HP® Promo Codes -
Don't buy without a coupon. If there isn't one you like, wait a week and maybe there will be a 30% off or something great.
