Hi. I'm about to make a purchase for the 15'' HP dv6tqe but I have a few questions about the machine and customizations. I'm primarily using it for college but I also like to play games on it as well.

    1. Is it worth paying the extra $75 to get a 2GB 6770M instead of the 1GB? Would it dramatically improve performance on recent games?

    2. Do most games run on OpenGL? (I heard there was an issue about the video card not working with OpenGl apps/games and that might be the deciding factor)

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    1. No. It is a waste of money as you will get absolutely no performance boost or anything relevant most likely.

2 The only popular game that runs openGL is minecraft. Just about every other game out runs on DX which works fine on the dv series.

According to HP tech, a BIOS update is in the works which will fix the OpenGL problem

Make sure you get the 1920x1080 display. It's a waste not to get the screen upgrade, because it makes a world of difference, and more difference than anything else.

The 1366x768 display is bad quality compared to the 1920x1080 display, and the resolution is so low that barely any windows fit onscreen.

Don't buy without a coupon. If there isn't one you like, wait a week and maybe there will be a 30% off or something great.
