I got my dv5000t around 2 days ago with XP Home install & with all Hp's bloatware. I am experiencing quite frequent hangs & restarts only when i am on my battery. So now i am thinking of reinstalling into XP Pro. I want you guys to please help me by answering some of my questions:

    my system specs:
    Intel Core Duo T2500 2.0ghz
    2 GB DDR2 Ram
    100GB HDD
    Nvidia Go7400
    DVDRW
    etc...

Q1. I have made all my backup dvds using hp recovery & have also backed up SWSetup folder in C drive. So does this mean that now i can safely format my HP Recovery partition?

Q2. I am using SATA HDD. What things i would have to do for installing XP successfully? (Note that i dont have any floppy drives so please mention any alternative method)

Q3. Is the hang\restart thingy which i mentioned above is because of not installing the XP hotfix for Dual Core's or is it due to something else? Note that this hang/restart thingy only happens when i am on my battery. The system is absolutely fine when on AC power.

I will appreciate any kind of help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    np06

    Hello, and welcome.

I will answer your second question.
Dont need to worry about OLD technology, floppy disc, just put the XP CD in the drive before you restart the computer and the CD will automatically boot it up. If not, check your BIOS, make sure that the CD/DVD is the first one on the boot arrangement.

I believe the question #2 was not boot related. Rahter, it was issues regarding the SATA drivers and how to install them along with WinXp

I believe for SATA HDD you will need drivers and a floppy disk dirve for that matter.
