    Hi everyone,

I have an HP Pavillion TX1030la, and tried to make my recovery disc set from the hp recovery app. When I did it, it asked just for 1 CD, very quirky since I have Vista Premium, the application burned the cd with crap data, and I can't make a recovery from that disc, and I can't burn a new set because its limited to just one set of disc.
One interesting thing, is that now I have four files in my C: drive, named HP RECOVERY, 3 weighing near 2GB and one around 500MB, with the .nda file extension. The Nero BackItUp software it's able to recognize them, but tries to restore them as if they were files of a back up. You can have the complete detail of these files in an image below.
So, my question is if these files are the images of the recovery discs and if I could burn them in a DVD / CD, or how, if anyone knows, to reset the one disc set limitation.

    Thanks in advance,

    Gonzalo

    Gonzalo,
I do not know why it asked you use 1 CD; even with Dual layer DVD it asked me use two. Anyway, you can search for hpcd.sys file in your recovery partition and delete that file. this will allow you to burn another set of recovery CD without any problem; hopefully.

How can I make another set of Recovery Discs?

For whatever reason, you were not able to successfully create recovery discs for the first time, or you lost the ones you made. Now the software won't let you burn another set. To fix this, open an explorer window (my computer, etc..) and go into folder options. Make sure "Hide protected operating system files" is not checked, and also make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is enabled. Then do a search for the file “hpcd.sys” on all local disk drives. Delete all of the ones that you find or rename them, for example, to “hpcd.bak”.

    Additional notes:
Do what is indicated in the above paragraph. Search may not find the “hpcd.sys” file(s). In case it doesn’t, on my system one instance of “hpcd.sys” is located in the root of the D:\HP_RECOVERY partition and the second in C:\Windows\SMINST\. It's necessary to rename/delete them both!

Well, I did found the hpcd.sys in the SMINST folder, I didn't found that file in the Recovery partition, but I got one in the C:\ root, so I renamed both.
Tried the Recovery Manager, first came up with a message that "The recovery partition could not be found", but when I run the app again, the same problem appeared. Below it's a screen cap, it's in spanish, but in short the disc maker is asking for one CD again.

I don't know what the solution to your problem is. I would say that the .nda files are a result of running the Nero BackItup software and not that of running the HP Recovery Disc software. On my computer it would take 17 CD's or 3 DVD's to create the Recovery Discs.

I know that you are going to hate doing this, but you could contact HP customer support and explain that you recently got a new HP computer (I am making an assumption here) and cannot make the Recovery Discs. Then explain what is happening. Some people have been fortunate enough to get HP to send them recovery discs free of charge.

By the way how long have you had this computer, is it new?

I bet you knew the answer before you posted:rolleyes2:

The only way to be sure is to actually preform a restore. :D

haha that's true, but I was thinking about some kind of md5 sum or something. Because it's a little dangerous to blindly trust the recovery discs creation process.
