I have to reformat harddrive and reinstall window XP and softwares in my new HP ZV5000Z notebook XP-M 2800 512 RAM
    I need some advice :
    1. How to speed up the booting time and speed up the computer ?
    2. I have thinking of partition my hardrive to 2 with 15 G each partition. Is it a good idea ?

    Thanks

Doing a clean reinstall of WinXP and only installing the applications you want will help, but if you really want to speed it up, swap in a Hitachi 7200RPM 2.5" HD while you're at it. See newegg.com, mwave.com, zipzoomfly.com, etc. I've had one in my zv5000z since March and HIGHLY recommend them.

Partitioning the HD is largely a matter of personal preference. Having two partitions does give you the option of switching one over to Linux later if you so choose with relative ease.

Also just in case you don't want to swap hard drive and keep your current one. You can twich a few things here and there on your system by viewing hardware section under the post "how to optimize a notebook computer" in the hardware section. This along with deleting out all the junks from the manufacturer would give u pretty significance boot up and shut down time. Good Luck.
