I have this old but still (used) working laptop! it's a Compaq Presario 1550, very old, but still going decently! but I ran into a problem this morning! I had put my notebook to sleep mode, by closing the lid of course, went away to go to the store, and I came back, and decided to check me email, of soon as I open it, it gets the Blue Screen, but starts up normally, but as soon as I open a web-page, it crashed! I'm like, Damn what happened? so I force shut down my note book, and it won't start up again, it does, but then is crashes again, and again!, what happened? and something else too! it checks for RAM, and it crashes right there too, why? this never happened before...

forgive me if it's too long, but basically this, My laptop won't run after sleep mode... and all my stuff got deleted, FUUUU!

Can the machine still boot up? I'm guessing the Hard drive might be going out, but I'm really not too sure....

Old or not, it’s still a nice unit. ;)

As Teraforce suggested, BOOT to the BIOS (repeatedly press F10 during BOOT).

If you can not BOOT to the BIOS, report back.

If you can BOOT to the BIOS, look for the Hard Drive & RAM tests in the BIOS. If the tests are present, run each test and report back with your results.

Also, on your next post please confirm if this is / or is not your unit and include the system specifications (i.e Processor, RAM, Graphics, Hard Drive size… etc. ) so that we can help you figure out your problem.

    ... and welcome to MBR

my bad, it's a Compaq Presario 1500US. Everything is stock except the RAM, witch is only 1gb...

Something funky happens too! As it's counting the memory, it locks up, the notebook stops responding, I have to force shutdown my laptop, I try to do it again, but same result, so nope, I can't go to BIOS options!

Make sure everthing is diconnected from the unit. Remove any disks in the floppy drive ( haven't said that in a long time :p ). Remove the power, the battery, the CMOS (RTC) battery, and the CD drive. Let the unit sit for about 30 mins and then reinstall the CMOS battery (good time to get a new one if you've never changed it.... and you can get the unit up and running).

I think your unit has 2 RAM sticks (2 x 512), try pulling one stick out and reconnecting to power and BOOTing to the BIOS (F10). If that doesn't help, remove power, swap the sticks and try again. If that doesn't help, remove the power, swap RAM slots, and try one stick at a time again.

Check page 5-17 here for RTC Battery & 5-14 for RAM removal. You might also want to read the included troubleshooting guide. Basically you need to be able to get into the BIOS and check that "Quick BOOT" is disabled so that during POST the unit will do a full RAM check. You then can also do the HDD check.

    Last...Your unit Specs are here.

Since suspend is to RAM, it's very likely bad RAM.

The RAM check, from your description, seems to be failing too.
