Looks like a HP pavilion to me, maybe a 14-incher? I can't tell for sure from just that one pic.

EDIT: Disregard this, google images isn't showing me a similar pavilion. I could swear I've seen that front before though. I still think it's HP, there seems to be the logo on the top left side.

People at another forum have said that it's most likely a DV9000 or DV6000

I used to have that laptop, it's probably the 15'6" pavilion dv6100 - i think there were two versions of it in different type of metal or a black cover. this is the fancier version.

It's a 17" dv9000 series. Smaller 15.4" dv6000 does not have that latch on the screen.

It's about all that can be said without further info, since those were pre-made in hundreds of different configurations. AMD and Intel CPUs, Intel and nVidia GPUs. One hdd, two hdds, different resolutions on screen etc. Then there were also CTO models (customize to order).

I've got one similar to that here in need of a new screen hinge (left side) that still works. It's a DV2000 series. If you can get it turned on, you can enter the BIOS settings and it will tell you there. Hit F12 to enter the BIOS at the HP logo screen.

I'm pretty sure that is one of the old HDX (they were replaced with the Envy - used to be HP's premium laptop line). It looks like the 18-inch to me (they only came in 16.4" and 18.4" I believe). Take a look, is that what the top looks like? I had the 16-inch at one point - wouldn't recommend it at all. It sure looked nice and the 1080p display was gorgeous but it got so hot under gaming it started to melt my tablecloth.
