Hey everyone! Hope I can get some help here...

I'm just about to buy my first laptop and I have all but made my final decision to buy the dv1000. I've been playing around with the customization options on HP's website and I have some questions.

    1. Will I be dissapointed with the IEG2 Video Card? Is this the only option I have? Would I be able to buy a better video card and install it myself? Keep in mind, I will be mainly using this machine for Photoshop (no 3-D graphics or anything), watching DVDs and various video I d/l off the internet, web browsing, and DVD burning.

    2. I want to get the minimum RAM and hard drive options on the customization page and upgrade those myself with better and cheaper options through newegg.com. Is that something I could do pretty easily?

    3. Would I be a fool to not wait until HP introduces their new machines to see if the dv1000 gets a price drop?

    Thanks for all your help!

    good questions.

    1) You'll be fine with the Intel integrated graphics for this
    2) Smart move, if you're not afraid to upgrade memory yourself (and it's really not that hard) then you can save money this way usually.
    3) Don't expect price drops on the dv1000 anytime soon, it's rarely ever worth playing a waiting game for prices, they do increase sometimes to and if it drops soon after your purchase you can call and ask for a price match.

    Thanks for your quick reply!

Regarding upgrading the hard drive and memory myself, these are the parts I was planning on getting:

    hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-146-020&depa=3

    memory: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-155-106&depa=0 (2 of these)

Will this require taking the notebook apart? Are there any good walkthrough type tutorials on-line to help me through this process?

Also, would anyone recommend or advise against the HP extended service plans?

The integrated graphics chip will suit you just fine. Upgrading the ram and hard drive on the DV1000 is not very hard.
