Hey all, I had my eyes set on the Pavilion M6-1035dx. It has the AMD A10 "quad-core" with 6gb of RAM and 640GB of HDD space and AMD Radeon HD 7660G. This comes out to $610 out the door price.

Then this came along -- HP Pavilion dv6-7020us Notebook Intel Core i5 2450M(2.50GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics 3000. It comes out to $680 out the door.

Which one is more bang for the buck? Note: I'm only using it to web surf, HD video/audio streaming, word processing. No gaming and stuff.

    Thoughts ideas?

    Thanks!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the m6 newer with the A10? Also, the m6 has a back-lit keyboard whereas the dv6 doesn't.

For what you are doing, either model will be fine. The m6 is actually a somewhat lower-end sibling of the dv6, with the dv6 being advertised as an entertainment notebook. In this case, I would prefer the dv6-7020us because it uses an Intel processor. However, the m6 does come with switchable discrete graphics which may result in somewhat better video / graphics performance.

@justinkw1: The m6-1035dx (Best Buy USA) does not come with switchable graphics.

@kentl901: For your needs, I'd pick the m6 simply because:
    1) It's cheaper
    2) It comes with backlit keyboard
    3) It's thinner and lighter

Yeah and the dv6 is using a last gen Intel processor too. Though really you could get a $400 Llano + 6650m notebook and you'd get better performance for a cheaper price.

My mistake - thanks for catching that. HP even says that it has discrete graphics from the specifications:

    "discrete class", but not discrete.

in this case, get the m6, as long as you don't do heavy cpu work all day.
The A10 runs like a last generation core i3, but the 7660 graphics are way way more capable than the hd3000, so assuming you are a casual gamer, you will likely be happier with the m6.

either will handle web, video, and word equally well. That's all featherweight stuff. Even an Intel Atom can handle that junk.
