First of all, thanks in advance for all the help I will be receiving![]()
I have a CTO V3000T which I just bought last month. Everything works great until I attempted to clean install window XP. Now, before you refer me to the "HP/Compaq reinstallation guide" thread, I have read it several times already. I copied the entire SWSETUP folder to a DVD before wiping out the factory image, so I have all the drivers I need.
I chose the 2nd option (disabling sata support in bios) instead of slipstream my XP CD. The thing is I still have one unknown device shown on the device manager, and whenever I turn on the sata support in bios, it will blue screen me.Anyway, this is how it's listed under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers:
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
-Intel(R) 82801G(ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF
-Intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller-27C4
-Primary IDE Channel
-Primary IDE Channel
-Ricoh Memory Stick Host Controller
-Ricoh MMC Host Controller
-Ricoh xD-Picture Card Host Controller
-Secondary IDE Channel
Two things I don't understand here are 1) it seems the SATA is installed properly but why doesn't it work when I enable SATA support in bios? 2) How come I have 2 primary IDE Channel listed? And what device is on my secondary IDE channel? I am confused![]()

The 'unknown device' is most probably the Quicklaunch buttons. You will have to install the software manually by running the setup located in SWSetup\QLB\Disk1.

I suggest you uninstall those Primary IDE channels and the SATA drivers. Restart, windows will find and install the IDE channel, then install the SATA drivers from here.

Interesting. If the unknown device is indeed the QuickLaunch button then I am fine with it. The volume and mute buttons still work eventhough I didn't install any QuickLaunch software. Mmm...doesn't make sense.
Vassil 98, I will try your advice, I shall report back soon -
Wow! It works! Thanks guys! Although I don't notice any performance differences but it works!

Glad to help.
Notebook HDD are slower than desktop HDD so SATA or ATA, there's not much of a difference. There are conflicting views as to the future of notebooks data storage but I personally think that a new technology will soon emerge as the magnetic one is spatially limited and soon improvements might become more expensive than innovations. -
Help me identify this unknown device
