    Hey guys.

I'm on my HP G6065EA laptop, which I've had for just over a year now.

Just recently, I've tried to install a new game, Spore.

I inserted the disc into the Optical Drive, and closed it. I heard whirring inside, and I presumed the menu was going to come up soon, but nothing. I went to My Computer, and it hadn't detected anything at all. I also tried right-clicking and pressing eject, but nothing happens then either.. So.. I think something's wrong..

Also, I've tried a CD or two since then aswell, and they are being detected either. :(

I've tried using Device Manager, deleted the DVD-Drive drivers and re-installed them, but still nothing.

    Any ideas?

Has the DVD drive always worked?

Try the Setup disk in it and boot from it. If that doesn't work, your DVD drive is pushing up daisies.

Erm.. It's been fine every time i've used it before Spore..
And I'm not even going to bother trying to find that disc..

Getting a new laptop early next year, so it's no big deal.

    Spore. Smells like copy protection.

Some games include copy protection software that possibly screws the cd-rom system in windows. It's a nasty side effect you get with genuine games ;)

Booting from any bootable cd-rom as surfasb adviced is the best way to determine if the drive itself or windows is the cause. When you get your hands on any such disc, it takes 30 seconds to test.

Mine acted the same way, it worked off and on and it turned out I just wore out the dvd drive by over usage. I just bought a new one online and its working fine again. I guess I burned too many dvd's hehe. They only cost about $100.00 so if ya plan on using the laptop until ya replace it ya might want to consider just replacing the drive. Just in case do other cd's work? (ie music vs dvd) Any issues showing up in the device manager?

    Cheers,
