Even with the default windows "write files to cd" is turning out blank and empty???As in the burning software finishes itself quite alright, but when you see the media again its blank, doesnt have anything on it???Both in cd's and dvd's as well as the nero 8 burning software the same banana is happening to it???

I am really running out of luck, just earlier I posted that my hdd had some bad sectors just recently and now this......WTF!!!!......not even 2yrs this laptop and its start deteriorating right in front of me.......literally speaking

anyways, back to the dvd writer, any help on this one?is it software problem like some HP technician pointed out the IMAPI Thingy to see if its starting........but even if i started it automaticaly/manually.....whenever i restart my laptop,it goes back to being off as in every single f^$%^in time!but still when i turned it on and dont restart yet, tried to burn a cd /dvd.....but still no go???so that gives me another point to take on.......the possibility it is already a Hardware Problem...as in my DVDRAM is going to heaven already...........
also tried uninstalling the Primary IDE thingy and have mine set to ultra DMA mode 2
I have windows xp home, updated to SP3 already
Installed Bricopack Vista Inspirat 2<<<<<maybe the culprit????but i guess slight chance only!

dont have warranty anymore,so just trying to find ways to fix it before really kicking in the bucket and splurge for a new DVDRAM from HP......not to mention I am also thinking of buying also a new HDD.........holy s><?t!

    that's what I call........"I AM F^&*ED!!!"

HP's DVD drives drop like flies. Get a 3rd party drive and swap the bezel if it bothers you that much. Lite-On, Pioneer, etc. all make better drives than the ones HP uses.

omg........i think ill have to go into my treasure chest for this.......lols

i wouldnt really buy from HP they are very, overpriced........

try to shop arround and canvas some more.....i would definitely buy a new dvd writer if at the end of this week no possible remedy or solutions did not come my way............

diagnostic tools from HP?any link will help please.........

low level format?does it wipe all data from my hardrive?how about the partitions i.e.quickplay hidden partition, the main OS partition, lastly the recovery partition?would they be lost as well.......i dont think im ready to loose all those files just yet...........without really thinking of buying another item for the laptop.......huhuhuhu.........ouch!...........i feel my right buttcheek hurting!

anyways thanks for the info and help

    cheers

to multi-quote,choose different users select the multi-quote button, then the quote button.

You need to rule out a software side issue and the only way to completely rule it out is to reformat and start fresh.

Theres 2 lasers in an optical drive, a read laser and a write laser (burner). Sounds like your write function has died.

As for your HD, its not HP's fault that it has issues. Its the HD manufacturers fault. HP merely just puts it in there just like every other notebook manufacturer. I suggest finding out what brand it is then go to the HD manufacturers website and run diagnostic tests for it

i will try this one last time hope this re-installing nero 7 can help before i really regret replacing my dvd writer when its just a simple software problem.......
    fingers crossed.........

ill tell you a little story...........
...........once there was a laptop named HP he has a video card, but the videocard was given only a 2nd updated driver from ages ago,his father(hP senior)never gave him any updates thus newer games tend to BSOD most of the times, leaving HP to shut down unespectedly, giving him some trauma as this thing happend quite often, then one gloomy afternoon,he got really sick, but wait there is a medecine, his friend, minime, tried to give him medecine, named Laptopvideo2go,and he did,but it was too late,HP had a check up with the doctorXPCHKDSK,but has already grown a tumor,a 4kb malignant cyst..........so poor HP,i guess tough luck to him, because HP senior did not provide him with new antibiotics evry now and then...........the end.....hahahahaha

    cheers

Have you EVER successfully burned on the CD-R brand discs you are using at the current time in this notebook? First try to burn on one of your CD-R’s at a reduced speed (such as 2x, or slowest speed) and see if it works (your laser could be weak). Also try to borrow a CD-R disc(s) of a different brand and try burning on them. CD/DVD burners can be selective as to the media they like. I have always had good luck with TDK, SONY, VERBATIM, mixed experiences with off brands and Memorex.

yes i have burnt some cd-r's before,i think i burnt on Imation and some generic cdr's as well, funny now,i mean lately,it can't,as for the dvdr's,i also used Imation and some generic dvdr's,but really other brands are misses and hits sometimes.....i do think that this tsstcorp is very temperemental when it comes to what kind of disk it reads and writes?????

anyways, ill try your suggestions and hoping it is only bad media, not hoping for a bad Laser Lens though, lols

Darn it! tried to burn a movie to a blank RI-DATA dvd-r but with no success..........nero 8 stops and the disc is stagnant inside the drive for a very long time, then i tried to eject it out and have some problem with it at first and did not eject easily.........so tried to pry it with a paper lip instead...........and saw that the dvd was partially burnt only but it is now unreadable when i put it back in.............

dont know if RI-DATA dvd-r is reliable or what............but i tried it on 2 blank dvds already same problem...........

i will really try to find and buy a good media dvd-r or +r and try to do the burning thing again.........

take note.........i just recently burn a DVD+R DL recovery disc so my drive/burner aint busted or malfunctioning..........just a case of bad media..........hopefully!!!
