Hello guys,
Hp update popped up on my DV5t-1000 and asked me if I want to update the bios version. I downloaded it, but while the installation an error occurred and it dumped all the memory to the hard drive. After a restart, it does not even show the hp logo only a black screen. All the led lights are on not blinking.
Please help me, what happened??? What can I do 1 year warranty just expired but this is not my fault![]()

oh god, I live in Istanbul/Turkey now. I dont think that they will help me to solve this for free since it is out of warranty...
I heard about this Insyde BIOS RECOVERY using a USB THUMBDRIVE method
can anyone help me with that.
The version that I wanted to update is F21, But I do not remember the one that the laptop came with. I did not made an update to the bios before on this machine and I got it in Aug08. So it should be 0.9 or 0.7 or 0.5 ... -
I downloaded the oldest one F0.5 and it has this file named 3602F05.FD should I just rename it to 3602.BIN ??? -
Try calling first..since they told you to do the BIOS update and it failed its their fault.. even if your out of warranty they will help u i think... no harm in trying

What is the model number on the bottom of your laptop? Yes you should be able to do an emergency flash using a usb flash drive.
-
Model number is dv5t-1000 a customized model with core2duo P8400 2.26ghz vista64 with a discrete graphics card 512mb Nvidia 9600M GT
Please Help -
Any ideas about which version to be installed?
-
For BIOS updates you normally go for the most recent one. The BIOS gets overwritten in the update and typically loses all settings from a previous version.
-
But in my case If you are a dv5 user, you may suggest a version that I should reflash the BIOS with. Or should I reflash it with the one that the computer came with?? -
What I am suggesting is if you are going through the trouble to flash the BIOS you almost always flash a BIOS to the most recent version. Every version is independent (you don't apply updates to a BIOS, installing one overwrites the other).
That your first attempt failed shouldn't matter, unless there is something wrong with the current version. If something is wrong with the version you have, then you should go back to the second most recent.
I looked up dv5t-1000 on HP's site and it says the current version is: F.14 A.

I don't see F21.
Once you have a BIOS loaded usaully you only update it when you need to fix something, improve support for hardware you plan to use, or get some performance benefit. If you read the change notes of a potential new BIOS version sometimes the changes are so minor it is not worth trying to update/flash your BIOS to that version. -

I downloaded the files from this page which is for vista64 and yours are for freedos.
Which versions should I use now??? Confused a lot -
I picked freedos becuase I wasn't sure if you could get into your OS. Not sure if the other versions of the flash utility require windows to run. Freedos should run on anything you get to boot.
-
Ok but this is very interesting because, On vista you have much more versions than on DOS. But the computer is same. I am very scared now
By the way I only have a blank screen, can not reach to OS. I am going to try to flash it with the Insyde BIOS RECOVERY method.
So are u saying that I should reflash it with F.14(dos) version instead of the FD file in F.21(Vista64)
Or If I flash it with F14(dos) is it going to work good while I am using vista 64 instead of DOS? -
Odd that they don't have one BIOS, but reading the changes it looks like the newer version add some keys to the BIOS used by OEM versions of the windows activation.
If the file you download for the windows version will work with your recovery tool then go with the latest version of that. I didn't download the EXE's of each update to see what inside, but they may use the same image of the BIOS. -
I reflashed it with the winkey+b combination. after all the sounds laptop turned itself off. Pushed to the power button and now it is still same
BUt the difference is now I can not reflash it, winkey+b does not work now.
ctrl+alt+del combination restarts the laptop and I want to turn it off, one touch is enough, dont have to push the button for 4-5 seconds...
And it responds to f2 key
I am desperate

Did you try calling and asking???????????
-
Hy man,
I have the same problem with a dv5-1178er and I called them and they said to send the the laptop and they vill fix it for about 400$. Crazypeople. I said that I don't have a hardwear problem, I just used their Bios Update from the official HP site. I'm searching for a week for a solution but nothing till now. The only thing I got i that the most of the poeple who used this update, ended up with a faild bios flash and a laptop which is just turning on all the lights on TURNING ON the laptop, but nothing else. No Bios No BOOT. I tried removing the RTC battery but nothing. Now I heard of a possibilily of reflashing it using a USB flash, but didn't tried because I took it to a service and they said that the only thing they can do is to change the Bios Chip (about 2 weeks till it comes the order). they laughted when I said that a few people repaired their own laptops with a USB flash.
What do U think should I get it home?
Does it worths a try?
pls help -
the method would be this one from MDL forum:
"""""Basically Insyde Bios has this format:
????F??.FD
| || ||_|_____ EFI BIOS file
| ||_|________ Version number
|__|___________ Model specific
If you have a platform.ini file, open in notepad.
Now find this information - this is an example:
[Platform_Check]
flag=2
PlatformName=361B
PlatformName2=3610
PlatformName=361B and PlatformName2=3610 is what you can use to rename your file.
So, rename your file, in this example, from 361B27.FD to 361B.fd and 361B.bin and 3651b.rom
The second bios file,for example maybe 3610F89.FD, but needs to be renamed 3610.fd and 3610.rom and 3610.bin.
This is an example if you have 2 or more .FD files with which to work.
Now, place all the renamed insyde bios files on a usb stick and follow these instructions
This is posted on Yen's sight - I sent this information to him last night
(1.) REMOVE CD or DVD if possible (you may have to press the power button the quickly press the CD EJECT button)
(2.) REMOVE ALL USB DEVICES, NETWORK CABLES, (anything hooked to the laptop)
(3.) PRESS AND HOLD the POWER BUTTON DOWN FOR 5 secs to shutdown the laptop
(4.) REMOVE BATTERY
(5.) REMOVE AC CORD
(6.) PUT the USB THUMB DRIVE IN USB SLOT ON RIGHT SIDE OF LAPTOP (the one i used anyway)
(7.) PRESS AND HOLD the POWER BUTTON down for 10 secs... release
(8.) while holding FN + ESC plug in AC POWER CABLE, (KEEP HOLDING FN+ESC the whole time)
(9.) NOW PRESS POWER BUTTON & HOLD IT DOWN... THE FAN SHOULD SPIN UP (keep holding FN+ESC) ONCE FAN SPINS UP, RELEASE POWER BUTTON
(10.) eventually the fan will shut off.... (seemed like 30 seconds,, but could have been 5 minutes... i was freaking out)
when fan shuts off i unplugged my AC CORD... REMOVED THE USB DRIVE,,,, and then plugged the AC power back in,,,
then pressed power and my the miracle of technology and my preserverance... i got a green power light followed by an POST SCREEN!!!""""""
