HP is replacing my laptop and was taking to long getting the custom build completed so they offered to send me a prebuild. I found out today that both are shipping to me this week so they said I can choose my orginal build or the prebuild. Which one should I choose? Both are very simliar accept for the screen resolution. I did notice on my 1440x900 everything was fairly small and didnt look very clear. I was thinking 1280x800 may make things a bit larger and make viewing a 14" LCD easier.

    Custom Build:
    T8100
    2gb memory
    80gb 7200rpm
    1440x900 wxga+
    Intel X3100
    DVD DL Writer
    bluetooth
    wireless

    OR

    PreBuild:
    T8300
    2gb Memory
    120gb 7200rpm
    1280x800 wxga (my only concern)
    ATI X2300 128mb (256 shared)
    DVD DL Writer
    Bluetooth
    wireless

I think the first one is better due to screen resolution and smaller HDD.

Second one has a discrete graphics card.

The second one is a better choice hands down except for the screen resolution. What exactly do you use the computer for? You're best bet is to go to a store and check out the screen resolutions and hopefully they'll have a 1280x800. Gotta love how they send you a better laptop with a flaw you can't fix easily like the resolution. I mean you could always buy another display and install it in their yourself, but they should be offering you a better resolution anyways.

I would tell them that they need to give you more options on picking a replacement laptop.

Well its either exactly what I had or the prebuild. I will be getting both at my house so I can play with both of these I would assume. I will be using it for work mostly. I do some spread sheet and web based databases. My eyes are not exactly the best and I wonder how much of a difference there really is between the two resolutions.

Well at least you get to put both of them side by side and see how each one feels. How long did they give you to try them both out?

Just got the faster of the two in. I actually like the 1280x800. Its easier for me to see at this resolution so im not having to blow up my fonts etc.. I think I will keep it the faster of the two despite the resolution. No dead pixels either. Which is what happened to my original.
