Hello all. I turned on my C563NR notebook today to find a vertical red/pink line running down the left side. Bad LCD? Inverter board? How do I go about diagnosing this problem?

Any help is greatly appreciated! ;)

Not inverter. Plug in an external monitor to verify that the LCD panel has a fault.

Thanks Brian for the reply. An external monitor has no line ... should I conclude the LCD is bad? If so, is it repairable?

Luckily, after a search today, I found that LCD panel prices on Ebay have dropped dramatically. I suppose I could live with the defect, but for $50 shipped it'll be tempting to replace it ... if indeed the LCD is bad.

    Thanks again :D

It's very likely that the LCD panel is bad. If it were the internal LCD cable I think you'd see a lot more lines. You could try reseating that cable though, and look for damage, but I doubt it'll make a difference. Anyone else have a better idea?

Its an LCD panel. My dv6500t had the same thing ( only green ) and they had to replace the whole LCD. You could try to reset the cable and bend the LCD around. When it started for me it was only when i moved the lcd then it would appear when moving it forward. It got worse and was stuck after awhile.

Was there ever any resolution to this?

I ask as my fiance's parents Samsung 40 odd inch tv just developed a similar, if not exactly the same line in exactly the same place.

It appears when the set is turned on and eventually goes away, although the period of time it takes to vanish is getting gradually longer (about 15 minutes this morning, as a pose to about 10 yesterday)

Unfortunately it's about a month and a half outside of the Warranty (isn't that always the way?) so just wondered what we're dealing with before we have a Samsung engineer out to spin us a story about it.

    Cheers.
