I recently bought a Compaq Presario V6305NR but i can't find reviews , it hasnt been delivered yet so i want to find out more about my new laptop. I read in here someone wrote that it was a retail version of the v6000z , i dont understand,
Another question, why is there no reviews of that model, is it new model ?.. o is it because is compaq?..why..
Any coments, does any one have pics of that model
It arrives monday![]()

Yes the Compaq Presario V6305NR is the retail version of the V6000z. The Retail version means that you can only get it at stores with an specific configuration. While you can order the V6000z custumized the way you want it from hp.com.
The base model is not new, so the only reason you don't find that specific model number is because it is retail and people have not posted a review of it. If you want you can look for a review of the V6000z at the Notebook reviw section. -

Other than the minor difference in the processors & HDD you got a pretty good deal.
EDIT: Didnt know you were a student if so then knock off ~6% off the price of the V6000z since HP has a discount program for students. -
thankyou for the response miner, i guess the processors and the HDD make the computer faster and better, so the price a good deal,

I have one of these models...the Compaq Presario V6305NR at $749 from Best Buy...I had originally bought the HP dv6000 (without the camera) at $849...but I didn't care for it...I find this model more suitable for my tastes...but does anyone know the major difference between the two model's? ETC...THANKS!
-
You mean between the HP dv6000 and the Compaq V6000 series?? They are essentially the same notebook but with different exterior design. The HP is offered with optional stuff like the built in camera & better graphics card but otherwise they share the same hardware.
-
Yeah...for some reason I thought the dv6000 was slightly bigger than the V6000 (I like the V6000's design better and DON'T want a camera)...I also understand the graphic's card is better...but I wasn't buying it primarily for games and/or stuff of that nature (that requires good graphic's)...I was mainly just looking for a computer for general purpose (movies, music, pic's, the net, and maybe some low-core gaming like doom95 and starcraft)...I also hope it will be helpful in making/editing music...im a musician on a BUDGET! so I can't go and blow thousand's of dollar's on a MAC or whatever other ridiculously priced computer they say would be suitable for that purpose...DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATION'S FOR ME PLEASE!!! THANK'S AGAIN!!!
-
yeah, your V6305nr should be more than capable for your needs. I would have suggested even cheaper Compaq F558us($399) if you were on a very tight budget. But the dual core cpu in the v6305 should give you pretty good performance. The only thing that might need upgrading would be the memory. 1GB is OK for Vista but 2GB would be ideal.
-
Thank's a bunch! How would I be able to get more memory though?
-
what about compaq v6420?
-
I need more memory...
-
Aftermarket notebook memories are easily available. Check the RAM Deals thread for more info on price/places to buy. You might have to replace both your original memory sticks if you want to upgradse to 2GB+ since HP usually use 2X512MB sticks for systems with a total of 1GB RAM.
Installing it shouldnt be a problem either. Both RAM slots on that system should be easily accessed by removing 2 screws from underneath the notebook and as long as you have the right type(200pin DDR2 667 SODIMM) you should be able to upgrade upto 4GB. -
Awesome...but where do I go to check what kind of RAM my system has, so I know exactly what to look for? Thanks for your help
-
Notebook memories are standerdized, so virtually any notebook these days is going to use a 200pin DDR2 667(PC2 5300/5400) or 533(PC2 4200/4300) SODIMM. CPU-Z is a good utility to identify the frequency, manufacturer and number of RAM modules your system has. Alternatively you can also confirm by reading the markings on the RAM module itself.
-
Great!...thanks again
-
I added 2GB for 90.00
-
I wonder if I can add the same...and $90 for 2GB is really good...but I will most likely only be adding only 1GB even if more room is available...where did you find that deal?
-
Okay...I just bought a gig of ram but I have no idea how to install it...can someone help me please...thanks
-
I just tried installing it and got this weird error message after I turned on my computer...I don't understand how this work's...I bought 1GB as I already have 1 in my computer...I only saw 2 memory slot's...so what does this mean? I really need some help...anyone?!
-
What brand/type memory did you buy? Try testing the RAM stick using Memtest( http://www.memtest.org/) to check if the memory you bought is good/bad.
-
Ummm...how exactly am I suppose to install the memory? Since there are already two 512 MB, do I take one of those out and install the 1 GB that I bought? Im
-
Yes. take one out and install the 1GB in there. You will get a total of 1.5GB(minus some amount reserved for the graphics card). If you want to upgrade to 2GB you will have to purchase another 1GB stick.
-
Awesome...thank you so much...I will try that in hopes that it will work...I bought DDR2 memory by the way...
-
the V6000 series that you bought is a nice laptop!
-
Yes indeed it is! Do you own one?
-
sorry for delay I bought Patroit memory at Fry's Electronic store
-
if you bought one stick of 1gb memory it will not work you need two stick of 1gb to make 2gb or 2 stick of 512mb for 1gb.
-
Oh...I did NOT know that...but now that I do...I will be taking this back thus the reason I don't have enough money right now for two
Help please, Compaq presario
