Hi everyone - been away for a while from these forums and thought it time to upgrade my 11.7 drivers to the latest 12.1 preview.

I tried to do this yesterday without much success. What I used to do was install the original base HP AMD drivers and then install the latest mobility packages on top of that and it worked most of the time.

When I tried to install 11.12 yesterday on top of my 11.7 it failed and would not update the driver. Everything still worked...just wouldnt replace the 11.7 drivers.

So I uninstalled everything, did a driver sweep, and downloaded the latest HP AMD base driver (I think 882 or something) and tried again, this time with 12.1 preview drivers. Once again, the driver would not install.

Can anyone give me a step by step on how to install 12.1 preview? What do I need to install first etc etc.

    Thanks!

In addition to running Driver sweeper....a few other things. 1. Go to your RUN and type REGEDIT. There will be One registry entry left over under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE for ATI Technologies...delete it...close regedit and do number 2. 2. Turn off your antivirus program. In my case, I cannot update and have it install properly because Kaspersky won't let the installer write to my registry properly. When I turn off Kaspersky...CCC installs properly.

Try that and see if it works for you

Bobmitch, thanks for the reply. I normally do a registry sweep with CCleaner too so that should remove the ATI entries but I will take a look manually.

My problem is that the installer runs...but if you go into custom install, it doesnt give you the option of installing the driver file...you can update random stuff like Hydravision etc..but not the actual driver. I will see if my AV is interfering with the install process but I doubt it as other things install...just not CCC and the driver.

Glad it worked for you. So you have the 12.1 preview drivers and switchable graphics again. Note that the default AMD drivers are about 15% faster than HP release...Happy Holidays...

Yep worked a treat. I dont use switchable graphics anyway - always manual. I find SG a little temperamental and glitchy still.

    Happy Holidays to you too!

How do you properly use driver sweeper when installing a new driver? Every time I've done it, I had to do a system restore because I was missing something. Do you have to install the HP Drivers as well after every driver sweep?

Yes, you need to install HP driver everytime you uninstalled it unless u're planning to install Leshcat's driver which come with the switchable component.
