I just installed a new 500GB Hard Drive into my Wife's HP dv9000 and it is visible in Device Manager, but nowhere to be found so that I can access it! I have gone into BIOS but cannt find the "auto detect" and one the first boot it auto installed it and said this device is now installed and STILL there is no drive visible...
Could I get some help please?
Laptop: HP dv9000
Hard Drive: Seagate Momentus 5400 500GB ST9500325AS
Thanks!

Sounds like you need to format the drive. Formatting destroys any data on the drive, but you said its a new drive so that is not an issue.
In Windows 7 click the Logo in the lower left-hand corner and type: create and format
You should see "Create and format hard disk partitions" appear at the top of the menu. Click that entry and you should see your drive listed.
Left-click your new drive.
***VERIFY YOU SELECT THE NEW DRIVE***. Do not select the current drive, most likely "C" because formatting will wipe all data on that drive.
I don't remember 100% of the details on the next step, but I believe if you select your new drive and right-click the drive choose FORMAT. You may have to make a partition before you can format it though. You might see 100% unallocated so you would allocate 100% for the new partition.
When you format the drive you will have 2 options. "Full" or "Quick". A "quick" format takes a few seconds. A "full" format can take several hours. I prefer doing a "full" format because it checks the drive for bad blocks. -
Eek...looks like I'll be doing that in my desktop...don't want to lose anything on the laptop by accident...that would suck!
