    Dear friends,

I bought a laptop from my friend 2 days back.
This is the model no : DV6-6170se.

    i7-2670 2.2GHz
    4gb ddr3
    500GB HD 7200
    2gb 6770m

When i got the laptop it wasn't detecting the GPU. When i checked in HP they have released a new BIOS for switchable graphics. I downloaded and flashed new BIOS. Now I'm getting option for switching the GPU. But then, I got a new problem..there is this fan sound/hard disk sound (don't know exactly) It started after I updated the BIOS. I can get the default BIOS settings.

Guys , I'm totally upset. Please Help me. What am I supposed to do ? Which is the default BIOS for dv6 ??

    Thank you in advance.

Those two things make noise normally, but if the sound is unusual then take it back to the shop you got it from.

HP and other vendors will mess with the fan speed profile in the BIOS, and then change it again later if there are any issues.

^ Which switching method are u using? Dynamic or Fixed? You can set it from inside the BIOS.

U mean't Device Manager only show Intel HD Graphic? Did you update Intel driver thru Windows Update before?

Do you have CPU-Z installed? Try to check the BIOS version in Mainboard tab, and also check Device Manager which graphic adapter u currently using and the driver version..

When u right click on Desktop there is no "Configure Switchable Graphics" option? (assuming you're on Fixed Switching)
If no, try to reinstall HP driver. Latest version is 8.830.6.3000 though.

Thanks bro. I reinstalled the .2000 display driver and it detected my graphic card. But i'm still worried about the fan noise. Is it usual ? When I play games the fan speed increases & GPU temperature increase 70+. Now its 53.

Cool.. i don't know what fan noise u talking about tho. My fan will spin at full speed when the CPU temp reach around 85C in CoolSense Optimize mode. Quite loud i must say. I believe the fan activity will increase if u set CoolSense to Coolest.

I'm talking about the fan noise. When the gpu starts in play, it increases. I can feel hot air coming from the ventilator. When i close game the temp goes down and the fan noise decrease alil bit.
