I just purchased a new HP dv6500t notebook and after a windows/HP software update the fingerprint reader doesn't recognize the finger scan and just keeps saying "The image wasn't accepted" Any ideas on what the heck is going on? I also did a restore point I set up but that didn't work either.
Thanks, Tom

Did you try to reset fingerprint reader with new fingerscan samples?

Suland, the following is what I have tried but still get the same response " Image not accepted or swipe finger slower".
1. Restored back to a pint I set before going any update to HP or Vista...No Luck.
2. Uninstalled through Device Manager, Authentec AES2501 driver and reinstalled...No luck.
3. Restored notebook to original condition by selecting F11 during boot-up...No luck.
4. Deleted Norton Security Suite...No luck.
I even called Authentec and Bioscrypt. Authentec indicated that as the reader was responding that it was most likely software. Bioscrypt could provide no support.
I sure would like to figure this one out VS returning as it took 2-weeks to get delivered as this is a customized unit.

The reader is VERY picky. It took me upward of 50 tries (literally), to get the hang of it when doing the training. I would just press MUTE and try over and over. Eventually you will get the feel for it. I'll try to describe how I got it working:
- Lay your finger flat over the sensor, with the horizontal line of the sensor underneath the joint at your top knuckle.
- Move your finger down slowly, letting the scanner scan it
- as you get to the end, dip your fingertip down into the recess where the scanner is

Thanks Orev for the reply. I will give it another try as it could be my technique but when I try the fingerprint readers on other HP laptops (Costco, Circuit City & Best Buy) it works every time. Are you running Vista?

i ahve that problem some times its weird. once in a while it wont recognize my print no matter how slow and perfect i swipe i need to reboot then it works again weird. but yea just keep trying its a picky toy, but when it works you look important lol

I wonder if it also has to do with changes on your skin/fingerprint. Maybe humidity or other factors can affect how it reads. Just logged in and it was giving me a lot of trouble, other days it seems to work better.

what really messes me up is i constantly have sweaty hands when there sweaty the reader never works when there dry tho it works every time
