ok well my xp os is getting really slow now. I've deleted most of the bloatware but still have all these proccesses running in the background and have no idea what exactly they are.. i want to do a clean install but have a few questions.
    so first..
my notebook is a compaq v3000z - amd - no bluetooth - wifi - lightscribe - no quick play - windows xp home.

now i have a windows xp pro disc. can i use that with the key at the bottom of my notebook?
or do i have to copy some file from windows xp home for the activation? forgot what it was though.

and do i need to burn both folders I386 and SWSetup?
and when i install xp pro which drivers do i NEED to install from the SWSetup folder? like the basic? like sound Ethernet and Lighsrcibe drivers.

i dont have QP and dont want to have it

The license key will only work with a HP WinXP install CD. It can be from any HP notebook though so long as it's the same Windows version (MCE, Pro, etc).

There's a way to make an install CD from the recovery discs... there was a thread about that here a while back.

You'll definitely want to burn the SWSetup folder to DVD. Get the latest drivers/etc from hp.com, then get whatever isn't there from SWSetup.

Save your c:\windows\system32\wpa.dbl file. That's your activation info. You can use that with your new install so you don't have to reactivate.

I think this was the link the thread pointed to:
    http://www.easydesksoftware.com/recovery.htm#XP

I'm saying that if you had a HP WinXP install CD from any other HP notebook that it'd work with your license key. I used the WinXP MCE disc from my dv8000z to clean install my dv9000z.
