Hey guys, i recently had a post here about my laptop being thrown up on, and looking for a new system board. Well I was able to buy the whole laptop base, with system board and power button so all i had to do was install the screen cd drive, hard drive, and wireless. I did all of this and put it back together, but when i try to start the computer it gives me a no hard drive installed error. What can I do? I ran the memory test and its 100% working, and in the start up test or whatever, the only thing with a problem is the hard drive not showing up.

You might first go into the bios and reset to factory defaults. If that doesn't work do you have a way to check to see if the HD is working? Might as well try the easiest things first. Install the HD in a USB enclosure if you or a friend has one and try it on another computer or try the HD in a friends laptop if they will let you.

You didn't mention what laptop you have, but other things you might try if your bios setup allows:

    1. Change the disk controller setting from ACHI to IDE.

    2. If there is a SATA enable/disable option try disabling Sata.

My laptop is a dv7-1135 nr. and the laptop base i bought was from another dv7 laptop, not exactly the same, but it was one of the other systemboard part numbers listed in the service manual.

And how do I alter the bios like you said?

when starting up the laptop, watch the bottom of the screen and it will tell you what key to press to get into the bios... usually F10.

That is why I suggested you try the easiest thing first. Check the HD.

Not having a DV7 I have no way of looking into the bios to see what options are available. Many laptops have the ability to modify sata settings, but it is one of those things you have to check for yourself if no one responds with a like PC.

Hopefully a new HD will correct your problems.
