    Hi all,

I apologize if this has been discussed before (I'm sure it has). I've been somewhat overwhelmed with the information, but all I want to do is be able to select my 6750m card as opposed to the 6520G, specifically for playing Skyrim. As far as I know, Crossfire is not compatible with DX9 and Skyrim is a DX9 game. The comp is an AMD A6-3410MX.

Currently overclocking my CPU to 2800mhz (VID at 1.3250) at Turbo and 1900mhz standard (1.2000 VID). I'm relatively new to this and somewhat "techtarded".

I've been reading this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/640466-dv6z-61xx-unlock-fixed-dynamic-switchable-graphics.html

but reading some of the later posts, I'd rather not fry the GPU by overclocking it and playing a game for 2 hours.

In any case, is there perhaps a new bios or driver that allows manual switching/fixed GPU use that doesn't include overclocking it to death? This has been a monstrously frustrating, unsupported issue. I don't think I'd buy an HP again as they weren't helpful and neither was AMD ("talk to HP").

Oh I should mention I installed CCC (or whatever the AMD version is) 13.4 but they told me not to use it. I installed the BIOS version mentioned in the thread I posted but didn't go any further as I wasn't sure if that's what I should do. I created a restore point beforehand in case it was the wrong things to do.

    Thanks all.

The stock switch run fine for skyrim, in ccc, just make sure add skyrim as high performance. Oc the cpu to 2.0 - 2.2 and skyrim run really decent at 768p with no silly mods.

    Thanks, good to know.
-What CCC version is that with? And you simply keep Crossfire enabled and set it to "High Performance" in application settings?
-Since it's not DX9 compatible doesn't it not use the dedicated card or will it use Crossfire anyway?
-Also, should I uninstall the BIOS I mentioned?

    Lastly,
-What "silly mods" cause issues? The reason I bought PC Skyrim is for the mods, gameplay, lighting overhauls, and otherwise. I likely won't install "super HD texture packs" but would like to add effects like snow on characters, realistic lighting overhaul, new armor/weapons and weapons graphic fixes, etc.

I think from 13.4 on you get a list of software. I haven't use my dual graphic machine recently to be exactly sure.

Crossfire doesn't affect if the dgpu(6750m) used or not, it kick in when it is usable.

Flash the stock bios from hp, the unlocked version "may" soft brick the machine.

More about those enb etc. Gameplay one is fine, lighting/texture can slow down a bit, just test for your liking.

AMD told me not to use 13.4 but it was working when I tried it - keep it anyway?

-So the DGPU will be used exclusively in certain applications, it just won't be used in Crossfire (unless it's supported)? There's no need for manually switching to DGPU?

-How would one flash stock bios, or is there a link on how to do that?

-The ENB mods slow down the FPS? What exactly do they do (in a nutshell), and what do they do to your computer? Mods like SkyRe and Requiem?

Dont brother trying to get anything correct from HP or AMD, they just want to push responsibility to each other.

    1. Yes
    2. Just download it in the support/driver, it is a 1 click run

3.ENB redo all the lighting/AA and stuff. I havent tried those two mod, but I had a quick look and seem they wont affect fps at all.

Thanks for the help! Amazing how 15 mins of messages back and forth is more useful than 2 half hour calls to the stupid companies that made this computer.

Oh ok, so the "Project ENB" mods that install super high-res texture packs, etc?

Lastly, any experience with skse (Skyrim script extender)? It's required for some of the combat mods.

Enb is kind of a set of graphical enhancement(just in general, not sure about the detail :)) , and people mod it to their liking /release it.

Skse is legit and shouldn't break anything .
For mods management , you can get a mod manager such as nexus mood manager.

    Fantastic, thanks for the help.

Specifically about the Laptop - played Absolution today and ran some stress tests, CPU temp got up to 92C, hovered around mid-80s. How can I overclock this comp without melting it? I'd rather not kill it for a game.

As per Fusion Tweaker, settings are:
    P0: 2800mhz (standard is 2100), VID at 1.3250
    P1: 2000mhz (standard is 1600), VID at 1.2125

Is something wrong with this mix?

2.2ghz with VID at 1.2 something usually is the sweet spot. higher may actually throttle when gpu kick in.

2.2ghz for P0 or P1? Have 2.2 as the turbo setting or the standard setting?

Standard, just keep turbo and standards the same, the cpu never turbo at all anyways.

Played around with it, running Prime95 and Furmark plugged into an HDTV (laptop screen not in use), at 2.2Ghz and 1.2V ended up at 91 degrees. Turned it down to 1.0625 and the temp dropped down to about 85-86, dropped down to 2.0 with 1.0375 and it was stable at 81 degrees. Does that sound about right for a laptop or is it still too high? I ran the same tests without any modification and it actually went up to about 89 degrees set at 1.6Ghz 1.325VID. Any input is appreciated.
