I just received the HP Long Life Notebook Battery (HP MU09) from Amazon for my dv6-6170us and right when I put it in and turned it on I got these readings.

This does not seem like a brand new battery just by looking at the "Full Charge Capacity" compared to the "Designed Capacity" as well as the wear level. I did purchase this from a third party called Laptop Power USA but it was fulfilled by Amazon so I'm really debating on what to do.

Keep that picture to show to Amazon if required. Fully charge the battery... then fully discharge to "0". Press the power button a few times to make sure it will not start off the battery. Fully recharge without power interruption. You can use it, just don't unplug it until it indicates 100%. Recheck Levels. If it still indicates anything near those numbers, send it back. It may have been on the shelf for a while... but you paid for 100%

I know many folks have issues with off brand batteries, but if you send the battery back consider an Anker. I have one in each of the units below and have had "0" issues with 2 years of use. In fact, both of these came with about 5% over capacity using the same software you're using. They also get very good consumer ratings on Amazon.

Thanks for the reply! Followed what you suggested and it turns out the battery seems to be losing "Full Charge Capacity" pretty quickly so I requested a return and am going to send it back tomorrow. I will definitely check out the Anker batteries, as I'm in need of another.

It's good you caught the problem! Most would not.

Not sure what size battery you need, but I only see the 6 and 12 Cell Anker versions at Amazon. No 9 Cell. Perhaps somewhere else? Just FYI.
