    Hey all,

I have a dv2610us that I bought in early December when it was on sale at fry's. It came with preinstalled Vista Home Premium, which of course I downgraded to XP Pro SP2. No problems yet, but earlier today, I came upon a few threads on this forum:
    "Fans constantly running?" http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=221701
and the link that came with it for checking my BIOS version: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...7277&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Concerned with my constantly running fan, I followed the instructions... I checked my BIOS version, and it was F.06... the newest on the HP site said that it should be F.39 on the 2000series. I went to the HP download site, and there were no BIOS updates for XP for dv2610us.

What can I do to update? Will I use the vista version or will I have to borrow from another notebook model?

Thanks for the help everyone :)

    Peace.

If you update your BIOS, XP will stop working or you cant install XP again

Thats why its only showing up for the Vista downloads page

First off, you dont have a dv2000 series notebook eventhough the label on the top of the LCD says dv2000. What you have is the dv2500/dv2600(AMD) series notebook. These have completely different hardware compared to the older dv2000(AMD) series. So, the BIOS updates and any problems afflicting the older dv2000 series does not apply to your notebook.

So since the HP site doesnt list a BIOS update for XP, does that mean a newer version does not exist, and I should just ignore trying to update the BIOS then? Also, should I still worry about how my fan is constantly running?

    Does this http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&os=2093&product=3548264&lang=en
apply to me, or is it only for Vista users? Again, since I cant find an XP version, should I just ignore and keep my current version BIOS?

    Thanks again everyone :)

    Peace

Hp doesnt officially support XP on your system. So, thats why you dont see any updates/drivers/bios on HP's website. However, most of the BIOS updates should work fine on XP but they are not officially supported by HP, so if anything goes wrong during the upgrade process...you are pretty much on your own.

If it were my system I would upgrade the bios but thats just me. If you are not having any of the issues described by the update then dont bother trying to upgrade for no reason.

the actual BIOS update from the hp site will probably install on an XP enviroment even if it says Vista.

but what the actual BIOS might stop your XP from working or re-installing again if you need to

just stick with what works for you
