I have a dv6000t, 2.0ghz, 2gb ram, geforce go 7400 256mb, vista home premium. Of course like many other people my games are running like crap so Ive been trying to install a different driver for my gpu. Currently windows tells me my driver is 7.15.10.9746. I have tried to install 4 other drivers and they all fail, 2 from the hp site and 2 forcewares from nvidia. The 2 from hp are 7.15.10.9746 A (sp34421.exe) and 7.15.10.9727 A (sp34761.exe). Both of these installs go through fine and after the computer is restarted, it still says in my card properties that the driver is 7.15.10.9746. Why hasnt this updated, is the new installed driver not taking effect? Ive tried to install these with the current driver disabled, enabled, and even uninstalled, but nothing. Now, I also havent been able to get the forceware drivers (97.45 and 100.64) from nvidia to work, they dont even get through the installation process, a window pops up and says "Nvidia setup cannot locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware, setup will now exit." I dont know why it would say this because I have the 7400 which is what these drivers are for. So, has anyone else had similar problems or updated their driver successfully? I just want my games to run better than my 2 year old POS laptop with a 128mb radeon 9600, which right now they do not. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Not sure why the HP package won't work, but don't worry. They suck anyway.

    Download the driver from here:

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1582

Next grab the "modded inf" from here

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13030

I'd usually tell you to get the driver from Laptopvideo2go.com also, but they're apparently having some server problems. No matter.

First dl the drivers from The Guru of 3D and extract them into a temp directory, then copy and paste the "modded inf" from LV2G into notebook. Save the file as "nv_disp.inf" (make sure you change the "Save as type" from "Text Documents (.txt) " to "all files") then copy the file to whatever temp directory you expanded the drivers into. When you get an overwrite msg, select yes. Run setup. You should be good to go.

The nv_disp.inf file that comes with the drivers does not include whatever NVIDIA graphics the "T" has (7400?), which is why you get the "Nvidia setup cannot locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware, setup will now exit." In reality, any NVIDIA driver can be used just by modding the inf file to include the card type. LV2G has a very good explanation of this if you have the time.

FWIW, I'm currently running the driver you will/may download. Works fine, no issues.

Hey thanks man, I did everything you said and it worked. One more question though, considering my specs (core 2 duo 2.0ghz, 2gb ram, geforce go 7400 256mb, 120gb 5400rpm hd) what settings do you think I should be able to play games at? Such as FEAR, COD2, FarCry, NFS:Carbon, and Half-Life. Also, do you think I should be able to play with High Dynamic Range lighting or Anti-Aliasing? Thanks again

Dam, I was right again. Must be something wrong.

Glad it worked for you. Always check at LV2G for the latest drivers. Just remember to follow the procedure I outlined previously. HP pushes out only those it feels comfortable with, meaning they suck but won't trash your system. They're rock steady and slow.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with the second part since I don't play games...well at least those of which you speak. I'm sure someone else can give you a hand. The 7400 is not blazingly fast, but if I remember correctly, a long shot at best, they'll handle a good number of current games with relative ease.

I'll stand by that until someone proves me wrong...which should be any minute now... :D
