Help guys, I am more of a PC home guy and want to get a laptop. I have talked the wife into one but don't really know what I am looking at or need. Here is what I want to have so help me out and please be a little kind[ :D]on the nOOb!

I want to be able to get on the internet via either phone line or dsl at home. (Not wireless using Ethernet card in PC) Or I can get a wireless setup but not be able to use that at work, just dial up!

Watch DVD's for the kids on vacation and possible some movies that I have got on the home PC at work via CD-r's.

Storage of 40gb is that enough? I mean i have like 15 gb of music on the home computer and have an 80 gb that I don't think that I will ever fill up? Should I think about 60gb to be safe.

All the different model numbers are so confusing.

I have no clue about video graphics or anything like that. I know that I don't want to spend 200+ on a dvd player for the car when I could spend a little more and get a laptop with the wifes blessing!

I do not play games on the home computer but will if I was to get a laptop since it will primarily be used at work for movies/games/entertainment purposes.

I am on a budget and saw that Best Buy has a deal for no financing on computer 400+ until 2007.

What should I look for and what should I advoid like the plague?

I have until wednesday for the special financing so anyhelp good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again guys,

    Travis P

Well, if you're not into current 3D games like Doom 3, the HP zv5000z variant that Best Buy just put on sale (the usual rebate thing) is a good bet. Athlon 64 3400+ CPU, lots of RAM and HD space, wireless, etc. You can custom configure one on hp.com, but then you don't get to abuse Best Buy's no-interest financing.

Also check out the Gateway Athlon 64 notebook they carry. Much better video card, appropriate for gaming. See the other forums here for info on those.

I doubt your wife will let you buy an Acer Ferarri...

Just another pointer, I think you can probably get a lot more recommendation by making a post asking for help over the hardware area since that's where most of the recommendation for laptops seem to head for....Overhere we may be a little bias...toward HP of course[ :D][ :p]

I like the HP and Compaq computer for I will not be upgrading for years and they are a reputable name.
