I bought a used 6910p and I noticed when I went in the BIOS to make my name show as the computer came on and as I was setting my poweron password that the serial no field was blank. Does anyone have or know where i can get the HP Utility disk to update my serial?

    Thankx

That generally indicates that the system board was replaced at some point. I'd suggest calling HP and asking them about that issue, their commercial notebook support is generally pretty good.

Thanks but they asked me to send it in since I bought it used and I am not a business customer, so i don't get business care. They say 3 to 4 weeks before it's returned, too long I'm not gonna do that, could come back with problems, it's happened before. Plus I know it's a simple process, (boot from floppy, choose update Serial Number, Update the number, Save, Reboot) I've done it before on some Dells and IBM's, but they make it convienent enough that the utility to do this is on their websites.

Not HP, which brings me back to my original question, does anyone have or know where I can get the Service Utility Disk for a HP6910p?

Why do you care that your serial number isn't displayed inside the BIOS?

Call HP's support line again and speak to someone else. It doesn't matter if you're a business customer or not, they should offer rapid pick up and return service. When something goes wrong with my Evo N620c, HP overnights me a box, I send the machine back, and I get it returned usually within 48 hours. I'm not a business customer either, just a college student.

Business laptop still means business support. If they told you different they are just trying to save a buck.

I had 'at-home' service even, and about five times they tried to tell me I had to send it in. When I insisted I had the 'at-home' warranty, they'd go look it up for 5 minutes and come back and say "oh...yeah, sorry about that!"

    Be insistent.

Hmmm maybe they do that if you have a warranty, ***I bought this used from a local computer shop, AS IS*** Envision, read my original post and you will see you question is already answered. I am not sending my PC to them cause it is a too simple fix, plus like i said i had a bad experience with that before, my system came back with a bad mobo, and some other issues.

Oddly enough no one has answered my question, my post didn't say how can i call HP and get them to help, it says does anyone know where i can get the HP service Utilities Disk from? That's all i want to know, i know everyone is trying to help but we are off the subject.

Utility disk yes or no? Post link or send me an e-mail.

    THANK YOU......

I have similar issues on occasion, my original three-year warranty has expired but before it ran out I chose to extend it for another year. For some reason HP doesn't always understand this and tries to tell me I'm out of warranty. But once they check they see that it is, in fact, covered.

Even if you bought your 6910p as-is, it should still be under warranty, I think all 6910ps come with a 3-year warranty as standard and the model hasn't been out for 3 years so it should still be covered. HP should be able to provide you with a disk to change the serial number in the BIOS.
