Not sure where to post this but...

Hello! I own a Compaq NC6000 (purchased off classifieds a while ago) and the fan on it all of suddenly got irritatingly loud. I did some searches on the web, and other people have experienced it too, and replacing their fans did help.

so I download and open this manual from hp
    http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00725201/c00725201.pdf

    that's the replacement maintenance guide.

Anyway, I'm pulling the power cord from the fan so that it has no power (see 1.) on page 118 of the handbook url I listed, and the power cord slot pulled right off of the motherboard! The solder ripped up and the three prongs broke off. I do not know how, I was very gentle. I'm talking about the part of the motherboard where the power plug for the fan fits in nicely to a three prong slot soldered right to the left of the fan.

here's a better picture ( directly taken from the hp manual just for servicing aide, nothing else):

Please help, I am going to Rome in study abroad for two weeks and will not have a cellphone, e-mail will be my only way of communication.

Edit: forgot to post a questions part:

So should I try and solder back on the connector? I am doing some searches for the fan on internt and it is below 50 dollars for it. Please give me your ideas and thoughts.

well, if i understand you correctly you have broken the jack that powers the fan...

if you are not experienced with soldering i would not do this on your own. try to find somebody that knows how to do this.
if you do it wrong you can definetly kill your motherboard with it.

and the cost of a new motherboard is in most cases around 300-400 $...

so i would try to find somebody that can help you with soldering.

    good luck mate
