    Hello, people!

I have a HP Pavilion dv6226us. Yesterday, I came back from work and wanted to turn on my laptop. I connected the AC adapter, but it did not work.

There wasn't the usual blue light at the socket. The laptop did not charge. What the hell is this? I don't understand. Is it the AC adapter or the computer?

Does the AC adapter usually have a light on the brick itself?

Have you tried another socket in your house? Do you know anyone that has the same AC adapter that you might be able to test with to see if it is your computer or the adapter?

    I'd try that.

Could be either. Best way is to buy another AC adapter or try using your adapter on a different compatible device. Usually one of these two:

-Charging jack soldering is worn out, usually happens if you keep plugging in the AC charger. Its a flaw thats happened to quite alot of people. Hope this is not whats happened cause youll have to send it in for repairs.

    or

-Dead AC charger, most likely from overheating. The brick part can go really hot and fail eventually.

No blue light on the charging jack means no power at all.

Thanks, the technician at my work said the same. The computer seems to be work fine, or so I hope.

It's the adapter that does not charge the laptop.

Theres still a possibility of a worn charging jack. The computer will work fine on battery but if you plug the adapter in no power is will go through if the charging jack soldering is worn.

    Worst case scenario anyway.

Is this overheating of the power brick normal?

Then how can I repair that charging jack? I mean, it should not be worn out. I am using my laptop less than a year.

Ive had about 5 AC adapters now and all of them ran HOT. Not overly hot that you cant hold it at all. None of them has failed on me so far yet but it is possible. Best thing you can do is put them near your notebook cooler to help cool it off

Its a HP factory flaw on the motherboard, they didnt solder the charging jacks properly and it will wear out quickly just by plugging it in and out alot. You will have to send it in for repairs, you might wanna check the hp website if your eligable for special warranty repairs (for the models that are flawed)

If you look around the forums here, youll see that it has happened to quite a few people.

I carry my laptop in a backpack quite often. I usually bend the cables of the AC adapter to put in the backpack, although I try to leave them as loose as possible.

Can it be that this practice caused a malfunction of the adapter?

yeah its possible, just like how head/earphones eventually stop working after a while when you dont take care of them.

Best thing to do is get another adapter and check, wouldnt hurt to have another one anyway.
