    Help: 8710w Failed BIOS Update

    Laptop does not display anything after turning on...

    It's basically a brick now.


    Here are a couple of options.

    #1: Search for the old bios image. Burn it to a cd. Place the cd in the cd drive if you can. Boot the computer and see if the bios boot block will find the cd and install the bios.

    #2: Remove the cmos battery for 5 minutes, and short the contacts, replace the cmos battery, and try booting.

    #3: Pay for a new bios chip and do the replacement yourself. (if it's not soldered in).

    #4: Send it in to HP for repair, thus negating the $ you saved by buying it off of ebay. (lesson learned?)

    #5: Use it as a doorstop.
