Hi, can any1 help me out here? I've moved some of my files from drive c to drive d because I wanted to prevent them from being deleted when i use recover. After I reinstalled everything using hp_recovery, I checked the free space of my drive D:, it has 256 mb left meaning the files that I moved should be there. But I didn't see any of my files. There is only one file present and that is "recovery". Where could my files be? How could i access them? can sum1 help?

Recovering from the DVD would wipe out everything on the laptop, in the C and D drive. I'm don't think recovering from the hard disk would do the same, but it was a bad assumption to make to put your data on D: :(

He never stated that he used his recovery DVDs, he stated he used HP Recovery, which means he could've used the recovery program inside of windows that uses the recovery partition to reinstall everything to default. He also states that his D Drive, which is the recovery partition is still there and looks to still have his files on it. All he needs to know is how to access all the files in the recovery partition so he can obtain the files he saved there. I'm still not too familiar with Vista, and haven't owned an HP laptop that has vista on it (In fact, I just built a pc and will be installing vista on it, but I haven no experience so far with it). If someone can please tell him how to change the folder properties so he can view everything inside the recovery partition I'm pretty sure that he will be able to get all the files he saved there.

The problem might be that if HP Recovery locks up the whole partition all the files wont be accesible any more.
I dont have that feature installed any more so can somebody check that if makin g all files visible will show extra files on the partiton (test a file, maybe :) )??

He really is saying that it looks like the same amount of space is used up on the D drive, but he can't find the files. The space being used implies the files are there, but he can't see them.

It might be worth it to try an undelete program like this:
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html
on the D drive and see if it finds anything.
