I was installing a program on my HDX16-1140 and the screen flickered and went white. I did a hard restart and its just a white screen, I cant see if the pc is even starting. Anyone had this problem before? I contacted HP and it looks like im out of warranty :( $400 just to diagnose the problem...

I presume the GPU failed? (I am surprised since it is a 9600M GT, not the 8600M GT).

Try an external monitor to see if you get the same thing there.

Sorry to hear that man. RIP

I would strip it down for $ on a new NB. The LCD should bring in some cash as well as the CPU, fan/heatsink, and possibly the DVD. Put em up on eBay.

Screen went white? ummm . yeah if external monitor is not bringing anything up, thats worrying. Ive just had my hdx stripped down as backlights went in screen and external monitor worked with the main display disconnected.

I had that in a Clevo, i disconnected everything and started again a returned okay. Later repeated, have found it was some connection problem in inside screen connections.
