This machine came bundled with Vista, but I don't want to use Vista. I have installed the 64 bit version of XP, and I am having trouble locating the proper drivers. I would greatly appreciate any help that pertains to this goal. :>

Anyone who has dealt with this issue, knows that there is no one place to get all the drivers, if they are even all obtainable. The 32 bit drives don't work, no matter what you do... unless someone has a magic fix for that anyways. I'd like to stress 'magic' there. All humor aside, I've gone all over the internet and have reached a somewhat frazzled point. Please don't ask "Why not use Vista?", instead, just look at <a href = "http://groundstate.ca/node/1160">this[/URL] site for the simplest answers. Bottom line, rather than commentary on this, I'd perfer information. I will research and post any results that I find.

Compaq's site has not been useful because of a new licensing agreement involving computers bundled with Vista. This has made it a real pain trying to get things going in the direction I want on this laptop. That's why you buy a computer isn't it? It isn't like I'm trying to install windows 3.11 for work groups, XP is widely used, so why can't I have some simple hardware support? Nothing fancy, just something that allows the hardware to function properly under the platform. I appreciate your time, and others who have been wrestling with this problem do as well.

    EDIT: ADDED July 11, 2008

I guess there really isn't a solution for this at the time. Anyone have any advice besides install Vista? Might be stuck with it for awhile...

I've looked, downloaded and installed drivers, but there where so many I tried, and some messed up others... that I can't even remember which ones worked. If I had known before I started this process, I probably would've logged it better and at least shared the information I had. My apologies. Guess I'll look some more and post here if I have any luck. If anyone has any suggestions/work arounds, they would be appreciated greatly. :p -thanks

I have the same problem, Vista with IE always crashes and this annoyed me till smoke came out of my ears.
Imagine, you are in a hurry, you have only less than an hour to buy WiFI airtime on an airport, then you want to check your mail and look something up, the system keeps crashing and needs a reboot every few minutes...

Apart from that, Vista runs slow and sluggish even with 2 GB of memory, gobbling up systemresources... I like XP more.

Did you try HP customer service?

I did yesterday and they gave me a lot of links to download drivers from their site and others that don't work either.

So I think it's really a wrong laptop I bought, if it isn't compatible with one of the most used and still supported OS's around!

Maybe anyone has a suggestion? I will still go on barking up the HP tree, but I am afraid they won't be of any use...
